Missing caption option

Hi, Today I’ve gone on to a website I look after for a voluntary organisation and can’t put captions on any photos because there is no longer a caption option. Can you help please? Thanks.

I have just tried to use captions on some media blocks and it works. May you please let us know the steps you are taking if you are still not getting the option to insert captions as well as the browser you are using. You can test to see if a different browser will give you the same issues.
Also, make sure that your browser is up to date and it helps to clear cookies and browser cache before trying again.

I’m guessing there’s been a WordPress update as new options appear with the image block, but not one for a caption. I’m using Chrome as my browser and that hasn’t changed recently. Thanks for getting back to me. -
Odd, I’ve got an updated image block, but it has captions. Can you send a screenshot of what you’re seeing?
Here’s what I see:
I am using Chrome (mostly current but needs to be updated tonight!) on current Mac.

The image block is offering me things I’ve never had before, eg, ‘duotone filter’, but I’m not getting what you can see underneath, ie, ‘Add caption’.
I’d love to be able to add a screenshot, but am running out of time this morning. Hopefully, my description will do until I get back to my desk later today. BTW I’m using Chrome and Windows. Many thanks. -

Hi there,
Thank you for your screenshot and your patience. The issue you are having is one that other site owners have also reported to us, so our team is taking a look and working on a fix.
To explain, the ‘Add Caption’ option that @supernovia is showing in their screenshot is actually present in your view of the editor. The issue is that you can’t see it because the current bug our engineers are trying to fix is that the text is white against a white background. It’s there, it just appears to be invisible.
While we work on this, you can still add captions to images. The trick is that you will have difficulty in seeing them unless you ‘preview’ your post. I’ve recorded a video at this link that will show you how you can add captions while we fix this on our end: https://d.pr/v/N6URKN
You can see in my video, even though you can’t see in the editor (when you are typing) that any text you add in the bottom of the image is showing in the preview of the post. Not ideal but it will allow you to continue to work around the issue and add captions until it is fixed.
