Missing clicks

  • Unknown's avatar

Earlier today there was a link in my “click list” (to kimonoboy.com) that isn’t there any more, and I noticed that several days ago a different link was there and then not there. This sounds so preposterous that I’m reluctant to post it but here goes. TIA

It’s possible those are links in the Adsense that WP.com sometimes runs on our blogs. If you’re logged in you will never see the ads, but people coming from search engines do.

Today, a reader clicked on one of my blog’s links, it was noted on the Click list, and later it was gone from that list, and I would like to know why. I don’t know what Adsense is, but it sounds unlikely to cause that.

No, it sounds likely to do that. After all, the Adsense ads rotate, so sometimes they’re there and sometimes they aren’t.

raincoaster is right. Most likely it IS an AdSense ad appearing on your blog.

Uh, thanks, raincoaster and wpvstp. I’m off to find out what an Adsense is and why it’s screwing around with my list : )

Sorry to be a total moron about this but I read some of the posts about Adsense and still don’t know what it is and how I can keep it off my site.

Since it has something to do with google ads, I guess that some people make money, but my modest site won’t make any money for a long, long, time, if ever, and I would like it to leave my stats alone. Can I opt out, or is this something that operates outside of my control?

(am I getting waaay too paranoid?)

It operates outside of your control. It’s the way WordPress makes money in order to offer this blogging tool for free. I’ve got a couple of articles about that on my blog. You will also find plenty of threads on this subject in this forum.

OK, thanks, wpvstp. I will check out your blog for more info, or maybe just ignore my disappearing clicks if they are outside of my control. I really appreciate my free WordPress blog, and it seems a small price to pay, as long as I know that I’m not losing my marbles … again.

    Cheers.

As far as I’m aware of, but there are probably exceptions to this, the ads most often appear to first-time visitors coming to a blog post from a Google search, and only if they use some other browser than Firefox. A second-time or regular visitor, or someone logged in to wordpress.com, or someone typing in your web address directly will most likely not see any ads. That’s my experience so far.
