Missing links

Over the past few days I have noticed that my blog posts are not appearing as they do in the ‘edit’ format. For example, when I write a post with a link and with a photo it shows up ok in the editing area and when i first post it but when I refresh the page the ‘continue reading’ option does not appear and therefore the whole post is not displayed and the photo/links are missing.
Is there a reason for this? (It has only happen to 3 out of 5 posts over the past few days so there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it..)
Also, ever since starting my blog I have not been able to set it to show whole blog posts, even when changing this option in the settings, it has always only shown the first few lines with the ‘continue reading’ link.
I am sorry to waffle on but this is getting frustrating!

Ok, so I feel slightly daft as upon clicking the title of the post it actually does show the whole post, links and pictures included.. however.. I guess that still does’t explain why the ‘continue reading’ option isn’t there..
That is the link for the actual post, you will have to click on the home page to see how it appears before clicking the title..
It is also strange how I don’t seem to have the option to display the full posts straight out, could this be because of the template I use?

The excerpt of that theme doesn’t display links, etc in the front page. You’re right, you’d have to change themes to a different one to have the full posts on the front page.

The Fresh and Clean theme is designed to display excerpts only on the front page and there is a workaround you can use to override that and make it display full posts. What follows must be done on every post as there is no setting one can chnage that changes the way it’s designed to function.
The theme has an active excerpt box below the editor. You compose your whole post first but before you publish it you switch to the HTML editor, copy the code, paste it into the Excerpt box, and then publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts

My apologies to rain and tt – but I’d started this reply before I saw your responses, so I’m just going to post it anyway. Maybe it’ll help the O.P.
First off, if you’re new to blogging on WordPress.com it would help you to learn how to use it:
Next, each blog theme behaves differently. If the theme you’re using is Fresh & Clean (which is the one in the link) then you can only show excerpts not full posts on the front page. Read through the showcase page for that theme and the info about it:

If you want full posts, I’d suggest changing to a different theme.
Next, the image problem. If you’re talking about your photos not showing up on the home page (the one that’s showing excerpts) it’s because they need to be set as featured images. You can do that via the post editor. (If you can’t see the featured image module there, then click the ‘screen options’ drop down that’s at the top of the post editor page).
As for the link problems… that might be a bug with wordpress – it’s pretty glitchy at the moment.

The theme you’re using displays excerpts on the main page (auto or custom). Auto-excerpts are plain text only: all coding is stripped out, so (among other things) no images. The post you linked to doesn’t show a “Continue reading” link on the main page because the excerpt contains all the text of the post.

Thank you all very much for your help, I had suspected the reason for only the excerpts showing was due to my chosen theme.
My main concern was the ‘continue reading’ option picking and choosing when to appear but Justpi has given me a lightbulb moment!
It all makes sense now.

@timethief, thank you for your advice, I struggled to find the excepts section however have now changed my screen options, I shall give this a try :)
