missing miniature picture next to link when publicizing blog posts on Facebook

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I always share my new blog updates on Facebook. It has always worked great and looks very smart since the link to my page also displays a miniature picture from my blog heading. However since yesterday when I click publicize there isn’t a miniature picture anymore. The only thing that appears is the text – which I’m not happy with since I believe pictures next to a link draws more attention. Could you please help me -is it possible to get the miniature picture back next to the link or is it a function that has been removed? Many thanks!

Here’s how WordPress.com is setup to send images to Facebook through the Publicize feature:

Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn Publicize select images that are at least 200 x 200 pixels in the following order:

    1. Featured image
    2. An image attached to the post and inserted
    3. Any other image in the post (not attached but perhaps linked)
    4. Gravatar

As a first troubleshooting step, can you check the latest post where the image didn’t show up in Facebook and make sure it meets the requirements above?

Hi! The thing is – the picture displayed is a part of the picture I have as a heading on the blog. So I don’t have pictures in the specific blog post. And just from one day to the next – I have not changed the heading picture – it just didn’t show up next to the link as it always have done. So still lost I’m afraid…

The thing is – the picture displayed is a part of the picture I have as a heading on the blog.

That’s not one of the options in the list, so I’m not sure why it was doing that before. Pictures should get picked in this order:

    1. Featured image
    2. An image attached to the post and inserted
    3. Any other image in the post (not attached but perhaps linked)
    4. Gravatar

According to this list, if there was no featured image set and no image in the post, then it should use your Gravatar a the picture.

I picked out the latest post on your blog, and I will use this post as an example to run a few tests. Can you confirm this is one that didn’t work as you expected in Facebook? I’m asking because it really helps to have a specific post to look at as an example while troubleshooting.

We’re looking into the issue now, and having the latest post link has really helped so far.

Is this post the only one you’ve seen with the image problem on Facebook so far?

If other posts had the same problem, could you reply with the links for those?

I found the following image code in your post and I removed it:

    <img title="(Läs mer...)" alt="" src="https://bhealthysweden.wordpress.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif" />

That is probably what caused the Facebook image to be blank for the http://bhealthy.nu/2013/06/17/del-2-nyblivna-mamman-och-jag-var-kost-och-traningsresa/ post.

I’m not sure if removing that will fix the issue for the already publicized post.

Can you try publishing a new post and check to see if the miniature image appears normally in Facebook this time?
