    Hi there!

If the post/page revision is empty, that would mean no changes were saved while you were editing (or the published version is the first version of the page). This can happen when there are internet connection issues, for example, which would result in an issue with automatically saving your edits.

Can you share the link to the page you’re working on so that we can take a closer look?

    Thanks!

Thanks, it’s a draft page, was connected to the internet online on my computer when editing it. Drafts are auto-saved when editing, this has happened several times with this page while I have been trying to update and make changes so I can post it up, taking me a long time. Its only this page , other pages and posts are fine. And yes 2hen online the auto save and manual,y saving works, but there are no revisions. Because this is so frustrating I am seriously thinking of moving my site to another service like blogger, wixx etc.

Feedback: I find the block editor isn’t as intuitive as the old previous editor, some things like working with columns, aren’t easy to use in blocks (this is what I am trying to do snc could be the cause of the issues I am having. it would be better to revert back and ditch the block version. The old editor was nice and simple and similar to using Microsoft Office Word that people know how to use.

Thank you for sharing the link!

I’ve checked the post editor, and it appears that there have been 43 revisions saved on that Page since March 2nd, with the most recent one being from 3 days ago.

with this same page when trying to edit it. I find that the blocks often have errors. They won’t show and have a message similar to “thuis block won’t show properly click here to recover” this is so annoying, when the block recovers it often breaks things. This is why I recomended that WordPress.com goes back to the old system before blocks, it never had issues of breaking, we could edit posts html or use the visual editor and never have issues.

  • Hey there,

Glad to see this was useful information!

They won’t show and have a message similar to “thuis block won’t show properly click here to recover”

On which page or posts are you seeing these messages?

    Many thanks!

the one this post is about scroll up to find it.

  • Hi @mickeyj4j – I believe you’re referring to this page: https://musicmikehere.wordpress.com/?page_id=1742

If that’s right, I see the “This block contains unexpected or invalid content” you are referring to.

A quick question before I share a guide below to try to help. When you originally created these columns, can you let us know if you copied the content from outside of your WordPress environment and pasted into the columns? If not, can you let us know if you modified the HTML within the columns at any point?

Related to code, we have more information on this error, what it means, and how to try to resolve: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/block-error-unexpected-or-invalid-content/#error-overview

We look forward to your reply and to learn whether that guide was able to help you resolve.

these blocks often fail after I try to add more information.

I am using the visual editor, trying to convert it into a a 3 column block. I copy and paste content from other blocks into the 3 columns where I need it, it looks fine, When I have finished working on it to work on it laterI I save the page as a draft to come back later and finish it off. When I come back later to edit it that’s when the blocks have the error and need me to recover them.

now before the block editor in the previous one if I needed to make a part with columns I would highlight the parts I wanted to add to the columns then click the columns button and select how many columns I wanted, then I couldnovelist things into the different columns. This worked in the same way as apps like Microsoft office Word application. Simple easy and didn’t break things. With this old editor I could easily switch to the html view make changes to small things and it would work. With the lock editor I don’t edit html because this often brakes blocks. I haven’t edited the html when editing this page.

Please change back to the old editor that was simple, logical, easy to use and didn’t have these issues. Thanks.

  • Hi there,

I copy and paste content from other blocks into the 3 columns where I need it, it looks fine… When I come back later to edit it that’s when the blocks have the error and need me to recover them.

Copying and pasting can sometimes introduce errors since HTML-based columns do not function in the same way as columns within a print-based desktop application like Word. This may be where the issue lies.

Can you tell us more about where you are pasting your content from? Is it from WordPress site, or something like an email or Word doc/Google doc?

Are you able to record your screen so we can see your editing in action? Possibly we will spot something that would be difficult for us to catch in a text description of the issue and that will give us an idea of where to look closer.

With this old editor I could easily switch to the html view make changes to small things and it would work. With the lock editor I don’t edit html because this often brakes blocks. I haven’t edited the html when editing this page.

It is true that block code is not intended to be edited directly. It shares similarities with HTML but if you are not aware of block-specific code conventions it can lead to issues.

While the classic editor is no longer the default editing experience on WordPress.com, you do still have the option to use it if you wish.

This guide explains how to use the Classic Editor. If you are using the default WordPress editor, also known as the block editor, please see this guide. ⚠️ While the Classic Editor is still available, it is not recommended to use. You can use the block editor to create media-rich, mobile responsive, and unique websites that the modern internet user expects to see. For help transitioni

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
