Missing Sign Out
-
There comes a time when feedback becomes venting. Unsatisfied users have the option of moving to other platforms.
Nope they don’t have but maybe you just don’t know why.
Those who remain here and choose to post their same points of view over and over into multple threads which distracts us from providing actual technical support are in my not at humble opinion self serving folks with ego issues they need to address elsewhere. As there are no actual support issues in this redundant thread I tagged it for closure.
Interesting timethief, I am not often here but when ever I am here, I see you complain about people. Get this sorted out with yourself and your ego.

I’d be very happy if we’d get past the ad hominem comments and get back to technical support and feedback. It is both distracting and detracting from the purpose of these threads.
-
Exactly where is your feedback on the sign-out issue please?
Read your first post in this thread and ask yourself this question. You are insulting people just because they have an opinion and feedback about the latest changes. You should respect it but instead you play the forum police.

@diaryofdennis
If you cannot find the sign out link please try hovering over your gravatar in the Admin bar because when I do that I see a sign out link in the dropdown. Don’t you see it too? -
My apologies to all for the error re-status of DesignSimply. I was somewhat mislead (i.e mislead myself) by the comment of “beau” and should have checked back to view the icon on comments on the other threads.
I have posted a request, on the Staff forum, for confirmation of Staff involvement. That is clearly unnecessary.
My apologies again for the confusion.
-
Honestly Timethief, I can’t see it either on the new reader/stats page. The hover does nothing. Click the gravatar and it goes to account settings.
Go to classic dashboard however and it works. It is very inconsistent. -
I’m getting back to the purpose of this thread and agree with justjennifer :)
For the few times that I actually land in the New Dash, yes please bring back a conveniently placed log-out link there. The current route to get there involves too many clicks.
-
(And thank you, designsimply, for your gracious persistence dealing with the negative feedbackers. Chocolate?)
JJ: We should buy much chocolate for @designsimply
Sheri: Thank you very much for everything you do on the forum. :)
-
I fear, the amount of chocolate Sheri deserves might give her diabetes. We should switch to something more healthy like kale. ;)
Just kidding. I’d like to join galois in thanking Sheri for staying so positive.
-
Sheri’s personality type is a positively focused one, and throughout thick and thin I commend her for remaining professional and true to it.
-
The inability to sign out directly from the reader is very frustrating. It seems like any changes made recently are either very unappealing visually or they take you on a confusing journey of clicking.
-
@iqatrophie, hahaha, I like kale too!
@timethief, thanks, that means a lot to me. :)
@mishunderstood, I hear ya. Thanks so much for adding a comment here.

Hello all,
Per @grahaminhats’s guidance, I’m here to +1 on the “cannot find sign out” issue.
Some comments about it:
– it’s currently on the My Profile page, a place I rarely visited (I mean, once we’ve setup our profile, we only so often go back to it), so it didn’t occur to me to find it there. Or if I did visit the page, it wasn’t obvious enough and/or my mind was too tired and/or overwhelmed with the new changes to notice it. ;)
– as it stands right now, the My Profile/Public Profile page might as well equate Sign Out for me :p I just want to emphasize how odd it is to go to a page which I don’t direct much daily attention to, just to sign out.
– would love more uniformity on what’s available via the top toolbar. When I’m on the forum and hover over my avatar I have the option to sign out, when I’m on the new dashboard and over my avatar, nothing happens. Thanks for listening ^^

By the way, going kind going out-of-topic here (sorry!), but ‘hoping @designsimply can quickly comment on it.
Has WordPress ever tinkered with the idea of doing beta testing for big revamps (like the one we’re experiencing right now), with a group of volunteer users, and hence, avoid/reduce the distraught of the whole community? -
timethief…here is my experience with the Reader and signing out.
You cannot hover over gravatar in the Reader anymore….well you can, but nothing will happen. If you click on it, it takes you to your Profile…a place you would rarely want to go, unless editing your profile.
You have to go to My Sites…then View Site ….then hover over the gravatar where you finally see the drop down that includes Sign Out. That would be one hover and 3 clicks in total just to sign out from the Reader.
-
Hovering over your avatar should result in a drop down menu with sign-out option, no matter where you are. The toolbar inconsistencies are confusing and annoying.

Yes! In fact, we did some testing before the recent changes and I used to run a testing group for the last team that I was on where we worked specifically on the Custom Design features. I would love to do more of that.

To go back to the purpose of this thread:
In order to log out from the new WordPress.com, I had to google three times (magic words: “how to logout wordpress.com new”) and I have now spent something like an hour on that whole issue.Do you really think that is reasonable?
No, I am not happy that I could not figure out how to log out from My sites / Reader / New dashboard or whatever it is, have had to spend a long time on that issue, and then learn that I will never be able to log out from My sites / Reader / New dashboard or whatever it is. I spent a lot of time reading on these threads to find the suggestion that yeah I COULD still log out from Classic Dashboard, then yeah logged back in, in order to demonstrate that to myself. Did not occur to me that there would be a different “Grey bar / Blue bar / Black bar / ‘Brown’ (?) bar” with same-looking icons acting totally differently in different Dashboards.
(An argument could be made that I might have eventually found the Classic Logout on the Classic Dashboard, since the New dashboard or whatever it is doesn’t seem to include all the necessary functions for blogging. Although who knows. Might just require more googling, reading of threads, etc.)
Wow.
I’ll repeat and be less wordy: Not Happy With Missing Sign-Out.
