Missing Site Editor (can’t edit header and footer)
-
Hello, my website’s header and footer suddenly changed (their padding or margin changed it seems) and the Site Editor is no longer in my side bar. I haven’t found any way to edit my header and footer.
I’m using TT1 Blocks theme, and I used to be able to edit pretty much everything through the Site Editor, but now it’s gone and my website looks bad. My website is not public yet as it is in development but I can make it public if needed.
Site: https://sparklymarimods.wordpress.com.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: Yes -
Hi there – I believe the TT1 Blocks theme is a custom third-party WordPress theme. Can you give us the URL of the site that is using this theme so we can be sure we’re looking at the correct thing? Thanks so much!

Not sure what you mean by “the URL of the site that is using this theme”, also the theme is supposedly by WordPress team not a third party, but this is the demo site of the theme I am using: https://twentytwentyoneblocksthemedemosite.wordpress.com/
My website looks quite different because I customized it a lot. My main issue here is that the Site Editor used to be in my dashboard and now it’s missing completely. Without it I cannot fix the header and footer issue. I’d just like to get back the Site Editor.

Assuming you’re referring to https://sparklymarimods.wordpress.com/ is this what you’re looking for? https://sparklymarimods.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

No, I’m looking for the “Site Editor”, which used to be in the sidebar and upon clicking it I could edit the whole page: header, footer, templates, etc.
“Customize” does not allow me to edit any of those things. I’m just confused why all of a sudden the Site Editor is just gone when I was able to use it just fine up until this point.

Hi there.
Regarding the Site Editor, are you talking about this information?
It seems the plugin: Gutenberg, to be installed. What is Full Site Editing in WordPress?
https://webgaku.net/wordpress/full-site-editing/Please refer to it if you please.

Yes, that is what I’m referring to. However, I use the free version of wp.com, therefore cannot install plugins.
I just would like to know why, having a free version, the Site Editor used to appear in my sidebar and then just disappeared. If it was never meant to be a free feature, why was I able to use it?

Hi there, If you are using the WP Admin interface on your WordPress.com website and at Appearance>Themes activated the TT1 Blocks theme, you might have seen this notice:
TT1 Blocks is an experimental block-based version of the Twenty Twenty-One theme. It is built to leverage the full-site editing functionality that is being built in the Gutenberg plugin. This theme is not meant for use on a production site.
After activating TT1 Blocks on one of my demo sites, I did not encounter the Site Editor in my site’s sidebar.
Since full-site editing is in its very early stages, there isn’t much information here on WordPress.com to point you to. You might want to look at using one of the Recommended themes instead. https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/recommended All those themes support the full WordPress Editor features.

Okay, I understand now. Thank you for your help justjennifer! I guess it was only a temporary thing for free users.
