Missing Ssl certificate
-
Hi, so I’ve recently decided to start my first online ecommerce store, so it’s a steep learning curve and I’m not too familiar with everything. Anyway I decided to use wordpress to build my website. From the research I’ve done online, it seems that WordPress should automatically assign you with an Ssl certificate within 72 hours as they’re partnered with encrypt now. I still don’t seem to have one, and obviously with any ecommerce website it is a requirement in order to recieve payments, so I’m a little stuck as to how to proceed. It is my first website I’ve ever built, so I’ve potentially gotten it wrong, so if anyone can point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it. Many thanks.

Hi there,
What is your site’s URL? I don’t see any sites in the account you’re using to post here.

WordPress is just the name of a piece of software. Software can’t include SSL, as that is something that needs to be configured on your server at your hosting provider.
The forum you’re posting in now is for the hosting provider, WordPress.com, and for sites hosted on our servers we do provide SSL for free via Let’s Encrypt. But if you’re using the WordPress software at another hosting provider, we can’t provide you with SSL as we have no control over your server in that case.
In that case you’ll need to contact support at your hosting provider and follow their process for enabling SSL on your site.
Also in that case you’re using the open source version of WordPress made by the community on WordPress.org. That version doesn’t work exactly the same as the version we use on WordPress.com, and support for that version if provided by the community who makes that software at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Hi, thanks for your help. It would seem I’ve posted this thinking the problem was with the software I was using when in actual fact the problem lies with my hosting provider which is profreehost. Thanks for your help. I’ll be sure to bring up the problem with them. Many thanks
