missing SSL certificate
-
I purchased my domain name through GoDaddy and host it on the free version of WordPress, using a redirect on the GoDaddy end. I just realized that my website doesn’t have the ‘s’ in the ‘https’and is coming up as not secure. What do I need to do to fix this, and on which end, WordPress or GoDaddy? I’ve read through a ton of FAQs and am now thoroughly confused. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

Redirecting a domain to a free site won’t give you SSL and a padlock for that custom domain. You’d need to upgrade the free site to a paid plan and map or transfer the domain to make the domain the primary one here to benefit from WordPress.com SSL.

Hi @nikarhone,
As @themagicrobot mentions, to properly connect your GoDaddy domain to your WordPress.com site will require the “domain mapping” option we include in all our plans listed here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
It is not possible to assign a custom URL to a free site (the site must be upgraded to one of our plans) and the domain masking/forwarding that GoDaddy offers on their end will not work correctly, and results in page load errors and/or SSL issues.
It may be a good idea to start with our lowest price plan (the WordPress.com Personal Plan) as it would have everything you need to assign a custom address to your site, and properly connect your GoDaddy domain. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
