Missing "Update" Button! Help!

Thatrobyn recently responded to my problem, asking for a screenshot. I will try to get that, but I need to explain further, because it’s a little complicated.
I use WordPress in my Technical Writing class. One of my students created a free account, and two weird things happened:
First, when she went into the “About” page, deleted the default text in the text editor and typed in her own information, the “Update” button went missing. There was no way to update the page.
Second, she had somehow, mysteriously created two identical blogs. Neither of the “About” pages would let her update.I helped her in every way I could think of, finally deleting her site and content altogether, and sitting beside her as she started from scratch (well, not exactly, since her account was still there, but with a new blog anyway). The exact same thing happened again. She did not do anything unusual, that I could see.
Frustrated, I gave her my username and password and let her create a new blog there. I even moved her to a new workstation in the same classroom, thinking that there might be some weird virus on that one. Using my username (associated with the above-noted blog), she created a new blog (cheyennewilburnsblog)
The good news is that she could now update the “About” page, as the button is present. The bad/weird news is that she, once again, somehow created duplicate blogs.
Please, please help me get her untangled. Ideally, I would like her to be able to use her own account, to create a single blog and use it.

1) deleting sites is gone forever
There seems to be a lot of duplicate blogs going around, phase of the moon maybe?
You and your student did not do anything wrong
I have flagged this for the staff to help
The developers are aware of this problem but so far they seem to be struggling since this is not a 100% thing that happens
Wait for the staff and all should be fine

Thank you for your help. I know deleting is gone forever, and in this case, that was okay, since she had only typed a few sentences. I was desperate! Interesting that this is not the only time this has happened!
