Missing Users & Followers

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I recently moved this site from Bluehost/Wordpress to WordPress.com. Initially I was able to see all the users and followers. But today, they appear missing. Am I doing something wrong?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

I have figured out part of this. When logged in as DanRioux, I’m able to see followers and mail followers. Until a few minutes ago I was also able to see Users, but not anymore… ugh!

When logged in as Zanne, I’m not able to see users, followers, or mail followers even though Zanne is an administrator.

Getting closer, but still need help.

Could the problem be when I created the new WordPress.com account? Zanne (otherwise known as Suzanne) already had a wordpress.com account, although I didn’t realize it at the time. Now it seems she may have two accounts???

Not sure where to go with this… help!

  • Hi there,

@quolltacosdiomedes35144 is the only user on insearchofauthenticity.com and the one that owns the plan and domain connection.

    @danrioux
is the account you had the site connected to when it was hosted by Bluehost.

So, if you want to @danrioux to be an administrator on that site you need to add them by following these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/#adding-users-to-your-site

If you want to consolidate everything under one account, you can move the site including the plan and the domain connection from @quolltacosdiomedes35144 to @danrioux by following these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

Thanks for your help. Using @quolltacosdiomedes35144, I invited @danrioux with Admin privileges. @danrioux then accepted. When @danrioux looks at users > team, the view is blank. @danrioux can still see followers & email followers, which is good.

On the other hand, @quolltacosdiomedes35144 can see @danrioux listed under users > team but @ quolltacosdiomedes35144 still cannot see any of the other users from the old hosting site. Nor can she see followers or email followers. How do I correct that for both @quolltacosdiomedes35144 and @danrioux?

    Thanks,

    Dan :0)

I think we’re going down the wrong road here.

Did the site when it was on Bluehost use the Jetpack plugin for it’s subscriber feature? If so, those email and WordPress.com followers would not follow the domain URL but would instead need to be moved to your new site here at WordPress.com

Your site is assigned a unique blog ID that is tied to your site URL when you first connected Jetpack that we used to track your subscribers. WordPress.com hosted sites – despite using the same domain, would have a different blog ID number.

Additionally, the old “Jetpack” site was never disconnected from WordPress.com, so danrioux and zanneinsearchofauthenticity accounts are likely seeing the “old” site’s information. For danrioux the “new” site is listed under your “My Sites” menu as insearchofauthenticitycom.wordpress.com.

If that’s accurate, I can migrate those subscribers to your new site as I’m seeing 8 WordPress.com followers and 29 email-only followers under the old site currently.

Once you confirm that I can get that moved over. Thanks!

Also, you will need to move any users from the old site to the new one as those are not transferred in a site import since each user needs their own WordPress.com account to be set up.

    https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/

Once we get that information transferred, we’ll disconnect the “old” site’s Jetpack connection which will remove it from the WordPress.com dashboard.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi,

In response to “Did the site when it was on Bluehost use the Jetpack plugin for it’s subscriber feature”, I don’t know for sure. I did have the “free” version of Jetpack installed, but not sure about which features. However, the “followers” and “email followers” are on the new wordpress.com site. They show when logged in as @DanRioux… but don’t show when logged in as @quolltacosdiomedes35144. I’m afraid I don’t fully follow your explanations above about blog IDs, old site, new site, etc. But I am willing to do whatever is necessary to end up with a new wordpress.com site where @quolltacosdiomedes35144 and @danrioux can see…
    1) “followers” from bluehost hosted wordpress site
    2) “email followers” from bluehost hosted wordpress site
    3) “User/Subscribers” from bluehost hosted wordpress site.

You mention that “you will need to move any users from the old site to the new one as those are not transferred in a site import…”. How do I do that? Do I need to change the DNS back to the old site so I can get back into it? If so, how do I move them over once I’m there?

    Thanks for your help,
    Dan :0)

  • Hi @danrioux,

They show when logged in as @danrioux… but don’t show when logged in as @quolltacosdiomedes35144.

The reason for that is because you were looking at the Jetpack-connected site (the one with the followers), rather than your WordPress.com site.

What I’ve done for you here is migrated your followers/subscriptions from your Jetpack-connected site (the one that was hosted on Bluehost) to your WordPress.com site.

It should show up now. Please go to Users → All Users → Emails Followers and take a look.

You mention that “you will need to move any users from the old site to the new one as those are not transferred in a site import…”. How do I do that?

To clarify, you can invite users to your site, as outlined here: https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/

In this case, you’ve already done this with danrioux. Feel free to invite any other users. If they don’t already have a WordPress.com account, they can sign up for one.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi,

Thanks for migrating our followers to our new WordPress.com site. We can now see both followers and email followers.

The only remaining item are those listed under Users/Team. How do I get those back? Based on a previous response, it sounds like I need to “invite” them to get the back. I’m fine with that, but the only issue is I don’t have a complete list of who they are. How do I get that list? Do I need to change the DNS back to Bluehost where I use to see them listed under “team”?

    Thanks,
    Dan :0)

  • If you still have access to your Bluehost site, you can login to wp-admin and review your users there.

I believe that Bluehost offers temporary domains — I suggest reaching out to their support on how you can access your site without changing your domain settings.

Thank you all for helping me with this bit of a challenge. Based on what you’ve told me, it looks like I have to invite 56 WP-Admin “Users” to follow our site. While they were “team” under the old site, being “followers” is sufficient. I just wish there had been a way to port them over as such.

    Thanks,

    Dan :0)
