Missing visual editor and media icons not fixing with refresh/reboot- I'm admin.
-
My visual editor is missing and/or my media icons are missing. I’ve read the “fix” and refreshed my page a ton and rebooted my computer and it’s still not showing up right when I go to write a post (aka: I’m being driven insane because this was supposed to go out today and I’m out of time at the office and have to continue this at home with 2 young children crawling all over me and needing all my attention!!! <–see? CRAZY!!!!!!) The icons aren’t displaying and I am admin on my blog, not a contributor.
Please help!!!
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:
http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

As I posted in another thread (“Visual Editor”), I am having what I think is the same problem. The buttons are actually there — sort of — but they are represented by little boxes, each with four hex digits inside. For example, “paste as plain text” shows up as a box with
F 2
1 7
within. For the original poster: if you can see anything, try hovering over it, and see if you get a “tool tip” displayed. In my case the “buttons” actually work, though of course the lack of visual cues is a nuisance.
For ‘timethief’: I have run through all the suggested fixes, with no joy. I’m using Firefox 21.0 on Ubuntu Linux; I also get the problem with Firefox 20.0.

I assume you are referring to http://richg74.wordpress.com/ and I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.P.S. Please do not post into more than one thread on any one issue as that can result in your request for help to fall between the cracks.

Is there any chance you could try another browser to rule-out a browser-specific issue?
Also, try switching to the MP6 admin interface: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/preview-our-future-design/

Yes, that is my blog; thanks for tagging the problem. I’m sorry that this ended up in two threads, but I think the other thread was actually started first; my post in that thread was made before the original one here. I do understand the support issue; that’s why I included a reference to the other thread.staff-blorbo
I will try it out with Google Chrome, which I would have done earlier, but I was away from home base. -

OK, I have tried this out with Google Chrome 26.0.1410.63 on Ubuntu Linux, and things seem to be working fine; so it looks like it is a browser-related problem. Perhaps Firefox has trouble interpreting the spec for the buttons’ appearance, and so displays the hex code (or part) instead.
I’ll have a trawl through my Mozilla documentation; if I find anything that seems relevant, I will post it here. Thanks to everyone for your help.

@timethief
Yes, thanks. As I mentioned in an earlier post (12:16 PM), I was able to use the editor; I made a couple of blog posts with it. But it is certainly easier to be able to see where the buttons are, rather than trying to remember.Perhaps the approach I outlined earlier might help someone who can’t use an alternate browser.
