Missing Visual Editor on WordPress.com
-
For a few days now whenever I make a new post to my blogs hosted on WordPress.com the visual editor is missing – only HTML view is available and there is no tab for the visual editor. How do I get it back?
-
Go to user > your profile, and at the very top, make sure that “disable the visual editor when writing” IS NOT selected. Make sure and click “update profile” when done.

Hi!
I have the same problem. But in my case “disable the visual editor when writing” IS NOT selected. How can I solve it? -
Please start with a link to your blog, starting with http://
Or link your name to your blog as the other posters have done:

Particular attention to the second item on that list. -

I just did the latest wordpress update and now my visual editor is gone, and when the visual tab is selected i cannot click in the edit box or see any info from past posts in the edit area (when i choose a post to edit). I have followed first step above and still have the problem.
i also followed the steps here, and i still have the problem: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/04/12/the-editor-has-gone/
I did notice this started after I updated the blog from 2.7 something or other to 2.8.
thoughts or advice?

Sorry, you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that blog is self-hosted and self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported there.
This is the forum for people hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.
If you do not know the difference, see this sticky thread from the top of the forums: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1 .

I have the same problem, no icons in the visual editor.
I’m using a Mac on the very latest system upgrade, Firefox 3.0.11 and have tried clearing the cache multiple times, updated my profile with the visual editor checkbox unticked, disabling and re-enabling Google Gears. Nothing has resolved the situation.
can anyone help?

A few questions/suggestions:
1. Go to FF preferences > content tab and make sure java and javascript are enabled.
2. Do you by chance have the FF “noscript” add-on installed? (tools > add-ons). If so, go to the noscript preferences (tools > addons > click on preferences for “noscript” and “whitelist” http://wordpress.com/ .
3. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and update your flash player plugin.
-
Update: Just upgraded firefox to v.3.5 and tried all of the above again with no joy. Still no icons :-(

Hi sacredpath:
1. java and javascript are enabled.
2. the only add-on installed is Google Gears which is currently disabled.
3. just updated my flash player plugin to latest v10.
Unfortunately, everything is still the same?

Forgive me for being very elementary here: When in the editor toward the right top side of the icon bar that is there, there should be two tabs, Visual and HTML. Click on the Visual tab. If nothing happens, click on the visual tab several times in succession and wait for five or ten seconds to see if they appear.
Google gears addon is a known issue. Google broke it about two months ago and has yet to fix it. If you have the google gears addon, disable it and restart your browser and try again.
If that does not work, in FF, go to the tools menu, disable all add-ons you have installed and then restart your browser. After the restart, clear your browser cache and all cookies. If the visual editor icons then appear, it is a conflict with one of your addons. Start turning on the addons one at a time and testing in the wordpress editor window. When you get to the one that causes the editor to break, keep that one disabled until such time as there is an update to that addon. Then when you update the addon, test it to make sure it does not still cause the issue.
Also, try using another browser such as Safari 3 or 4 and see if the editor is alright in that browser.

no problem.
Currently I have no add-ons enabled. Gears is the only one installed but disabled.
I have flipped from visual to html many times following your tip but nothing has changed.
I have also cleared all cookies and cache again with a restart, without change.
I have no problems in Safari, however this is not my browser of choice.

At this point I’m out of suggestions so I’ll have to point you toward support at http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ to see if they have any ideas. I’m on Mac 10.5.6 with FF 3.5 and have no problems so it is either something in your settings on FF that somehow got changed, or it is some bizarre thing in the backend at wordpress.
