  Hi – I hoped to change my web name by buying a new domain and then updating in my wordpress site via Settings, General and then putting the new address into WordPress Address and Site Address. The plan was to keep the previous website as it was, but with a new address, but the site has now completely disappeared. Any help as to how to get it back would be much appreciated – thank you.

  Hi there,

  You cannot change the domain on a self-hosted WordPress website by just changing it in Settings. There is a very specific process you need to follow to make sure the domain gets updated correctly everywhere in the database and on your hosting account, else you just lock yourself out of the dashboard and break the site.

  You’ll need to contact your hosting provider for help with this, as this needs to be fixed on their end.
