Missing widgets on sidebar

  Hey there, big newbie on WP.com. I keep having issues with adding widgets to my sidebar. In fact only one widget “Recent Posts”. I’ve tried changing a theme as I thought that might have been the issue. However, it isn’t so. New theme and I still have issues with this widget. I add it but it doesn’t appear. Help pls :/

  Hi there,

  Welcome to WordPress! You’ll be a pro in no time!

  There are a few things that could cause that, but just looking at your site (which is looking great!), I suspect the issue is that you don’t have any posts yet. Recent Posts won’t display until you have some recent posts exist. Write a test post or two and see if that helps.

  If not, here are= three other things to check:

  1. Check the visibility settings of your widget to make sure that it’s not hidden for a particular author etc.
  2. Check the page template you are looking at. Some page templates don’t show the widgets or don’t show them in the same place.
  3. Look at which location you have the Widget in. Different themes will usually have more than one possible location for example “Main Sidebar” and “First Front Page Widget Area” These options appear in the right column in the widgets page.

  Hi, I’ve been using Chateau for years now and just recently my Facebook Follow and Twitter Follow widgets have disappeared. I’ve looked here: https://louisecusack.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php and they seem to be still in place and unchanged, but they’re not showing up on my sidebar, when other widgets are. Has Chateau changed?

  Thanks for your time, Jason. Turns out the widgets *are* there, I just couldn’t see them because my new Adblock Plus program wasn’t allowing me to see them. Doh! I’ve since disabled that program.
