Missing 'www' in gsb.at
-
Hey WordPress-Support,
I would like to know how I can fix the ‘problem’ with the domain-adress. The ‘www’ is missing with ‘gsb.at’. And customers told me, when they type the address with ‘www’ ahead, then they’re getting an error message (I never get that message though). I found via Google a hint to change the settings in my Dashboard but there is no option to change the wordpress-adress. Maybe it’s because it’s a mapped domain?
Can you fix this for me or tell me how it’s done?
Thank you very much!
Gerald Barthel

Hi garygsb,
From what I understand, the “www” prefix is no longer needed.
Sites should work when entering either. If it helps, both http://www.gsb.at and gsb.at work for me.
Hopefully someone can shed a little more light on the subject.

Sorry again, the links don’t seem to be linking to where I want to link them.
However, when I enter http://www.gsb.at and gsb.at in the browser, they both work.

The software will continue to strip out the redunant and unnecessary www.
Be aware that www is an old protocol from way back when the web was new and everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
