  I did not mean to create an account with this domain. Its owned by someone else. I need both sites removed to be used by someone else.

  And johnsonmoduscom.wordpress.com…I was just trying to look into a WordPress site for the actual owner of johnsonmodus.com. I didn’t realize it would automatically add them to my account!

  Hi there,

  If you want the sites in your account to belong to someone else, you can transfer ownership of a site to another WordPress.com account as explained here:

  https://wordpress.com/en/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

  You can also delete the sites if you want, but that will permanently remove the addresses from WordPress.com, meaning no one will ever be able to register those same addresses again.

  (P.S. johnsonmodus.com isn’t hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider. So it’s possible the owner of that site doesn’t even have a WordPress.com username, in which case you won’t be able to transfer the WordPress.com sites you made to them.

  Also keep in mind that johnsonmodus.wordpress.com and johnsonmodus.com are two completely separate and different sites, and the owner of johnsonmodus.com has no automatic claim over the WordPress.com address, johnsonmodus.wordpress.com – as far as we’re concerned you own the WordPress.com address free and clear, as the person who created it, and can do with it whatever you want.   OK, great. I just spoke with the owner and they would like me to build them a business website. I would just purchase the business package and link their domain, johnsonmodus.com, correct? If they choose to have someone else takeover the site, I would be able to transfer it to them?

  Yes, you can upgrade either of your sites on WordPress.com, and connect the johnsonmodus.com domain to the site, setting it as the primary domain.

  I think in this case, it would be preferable if they opened their own WordPress.com account by following this link: https://wordpress.com/start/account/user

  You can transfer ownership of johnsonmodus.wordpress.com to them, and allow them to purchase the plan upgrade instead. This way, they will retain ownership of the site and its upgrades.

  As the site owner, they can assign you (or other parties) with administrator access. Here’s how: https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/
