    Dear WordPress staff!
My website is weltler.wordpress.com hosted by you.
Today I read a message from you that I have started but not finished some upgrade request. Unfortunately I skipped this message and now I don’t know exactly what it was about. This upgrade request was wrong of me – please delete it, because I don’t want anything like that!!
    Sincerely
    Rezső Weltler

  • Hi @weltler,

Looking at the latest email that we sent you, I see that you exported your site content. It’s fine to disregard this — this is useful for when you make a backup of your site, and doesn’t affect your site otherwise.

    Hope that helps.

    Dear metabreakr,
Ok, you’re right: my backup ended successfully, problem solved. – But I’ve another, more fundamental question: can’t install the free Elementor for my free WordPress plan!
I want to use the free Elementor. To do this, I want to download it according to the tutorials as a plugin to my free WordPress plan. On the dashboard I select the “Plugin” menu item, which only lists paid plugins, there is no “add new plugin” option. Is there something missing my basic WordPress plan?
    Yours sincerely
    R. Weltler

But I’ve another, more fundamental question: can’t install the free Elementor for my free WordPress plan!

There’s three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software.

Most sites on WordPress.com use a shared environment, meaning that they all run the same software. This is great because it allows us to update millions of sites at the same time. It means we can fix bugs or offer new features very quickly, which is a win for you as users.

What that also means is that we limit what you can do on the different plan levels. Free sites are not able to add plugins to their sites – that’s something only available to Business or eCommerce plan levels.

So while the Elementor plugin is free to use if you have your own hosted version of the WordPress software, you would need to upgrade to the Business or eCommerce plan in order to use it on your site hosted here at WordPress.com.

If you can clarify why you’re looking to use Elementor, we might already have what you’re looking for built into WordPress.com so you wouldn’t need to upgrade to accomplish your goals.

    I hope that clarifies things.
