Misty Lake Internet Explorer 8 incompatibility?

    I have just (reluctantly) switched theme from Misty Look to Misty Lake. It looks reasonably OK in Chrome and other “modern” browsers, but the page tabs above the header don’t appear in Internet Explorer 8, where it looks a mess of raw text. Surely some people out there still use XP and IE8? I don’t want my less up-to-date readers to think my blog is faulty.

    I am running XP but I don’t use IE8. I abandoned Miscrosoft browser use way back when that horror IE6 was introduced and started using Firefox a reliable browser that has never let me down.

    I’m using Misty Lake on both of my blogs and I love this theme. I just viewed them both using IE8 and was no happy with the display I saw.

    The opacity is completely missing using IE8 and the custom menus are vertically stacked above the header. Themes Staff need to be alerted to this. I have tagged this thread so it’s moved to the Themes Forum where they can be notified of the issues.

    I am having the same problem with Internet Explorer – this needs to be sorted out ASAP!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reporting this issue. We’re working on a solution.

    It should be noted that currently, only a very small percentage of users for WordPress.com use IE8, so unless the issue creates a significant usability or display problem (such as this one), we won’t be actively supporting the browser for new themes.

    I’ll update you once a fix is in place.

    Hi-

    Same problem here. I would love to switch my current ‘Mistylook’ to the new ‘Mistylake’ but I know some of my readers are still using Windows and XP. Too bad…I think the updated template is much nicer.

    I’m still using Windows XP which will not longer be supported by Microsoft as of April. However, I switched to using Firefox browsers way back when that horror show IE6 was introduced. I suggest that you can switch to Firefox 17 as I have done. You can do that here if you choose to do so http://browsehappy.com

    Thanks ever so for trying to help. I appreciate there are alternative browsers that can be used with XP and I myself now use Google Chrome or Firefox for most things. However, at my place of work, for example, we still have to use IE8 as default because of various technical reasons involving compatibility with other software we need (it’s complicated).
    What I am trying to say isn’t that any/many WordPress WRITERS use IE8, but that many of our READERS/VIEWERS may be using it and we would hate them to see our lovely blogs with no column on the right and all the sections stacked on top. It looks rubbish.
    Thanks to the WordPress developers for saying they will try to fix this. I am staying with Misty Look until Misty Lake does have this particularly serious glitch sorted and I hope they are able to do that before the Misty Look option is removed.

    @Cainm – thanks for the reply on this. Please can I ask that you look at the bugs I have posted on a different thread, also copied below:

    1. Email notifications of new posts to subscribers (my blog, http://ukhumanrightsblog.com has over 4,000) now arrive from “wordpress.com” instead of the name of the blog. This is confusing and needs to be fixed.

    2. The fade in/out haze feature is cute but should be optional. The sidebar features are really important on my blog and I want readers to be able to see them properly at all times. I tried to fix this via CSS but it seems to have returned today.

    3. The ‘edit’ button is now at the bottom of posts rather at the top. This is a small point but it is annoying to have to scroll down to the bottom of posts when all you want to do is edit (not read) them.

    Unfortunately we don’t have a plan to make it optional but you can force the opacity for the sidebar widgets with Custom CSS.

    I’m afraid to say we don’t have a plan to chnage this but I can provide you CSS snippets to move the edit button.

    When is the fix likely to be available?
    Possible plugin code is:
