Misty Lake lettering greyed out unless you scroll your cursor over it. Why?
-
I have just transitioned from Misty Look to Misty Lake as the theme for my blog: mulberryshoots.com I have two questions: the lettering is pale and hard to read. When my cursor scrolls over it, the text is darker and more legible and the photos change a darker tone as well. Is this normal for this theme? It seems odd. Second question is that I can’t seem to customize (or purchase) customizing Misty Lake. Can I change color of fonts without purchasing the customization? I am most concerned by the pale appearance of the text which darkens when you scroll the cursor over the lettering. Thanks. Katherine

Hi there,
mulberryshoots.com looks like it’s running a different theme, Ocean Mist. Were you asking about a different site, or did you already switch themes? The pale and hard to read text is, believe it or not, a designed feature of this theme. To keep the sidebar as a secondary reading area and have less focus than the main content.
Since you have the Custom CSS upgrade, you can fix it with a bit of Custom CSS. Here’s a sample:
.entry-meta, .widget-area, .comments-area, #respond, .format-quote .entry-title, .format-quote .entry-title a, .format-aside .entry-title hover, .format-aside .entry-title a, .header-image img, .entry-content img, .comment-content img, .widget img, .entry-thumbnail img { opacity: 1 !important; }That turns off the fade completely.

Wow, I’m impressed by the css code you just went through. I thought the “fade” text was almost invisible and kind of annoying. So I switched themes, not realizing how easy it is to do. On “Ocean Mist”, what else can I do to customize it with my purchase of the upgrade besides change the style and size of the font? It seems like $30 is quite a lot just to be able to do that and not change any of the background color or font color at all.
Thanks for your help, Katherine -
Ocean Mist is a much older theme, so not all the Custom Design tools work great with it. If you switch to a newer theme you’ll have more options with the Custom Colors and Custom Fonts tools in Custom Design. It’s quite powerful! See tutorials and ideas at Custom Design for inspiration.
Also, check out http://theme.wordpress.com/customize/ for a gallery of other sites and how they customized their themes. You can do a lot with it, some of them are quite creative.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll look into these other themes. I take it that my $30 custom upgrade can be used for any of the themes that I might select, right?
