Misty Look : Custom Header not seen

  • Unknown's avatar

I just upgraded to custom CSS on wordpress and wanted to create a custom header for my blog (http://literalinterpretations.wordpress.com).. I did create an image and uploaded it in the media library and I tried inserting it in the CSS sheet with the help of the URL created for the image by wordpress. I cannot see the header after numerous attempts.

I then restored the header to original and tried with the custom header option on the sidebar, but to no result. I still cannot see the custom header.

    Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

After you CSS edit a theme the custom header uploader can no longer be used.

Setting that matter aside how can we help you without any links being provided? What can we go on? Wild guesses?

Ahh, please pardon my ignorance.. i am new to CSS editing..

As for the stylesheet, I removed the header image link.. but the url of the image is here..

is there anything else that I need to provide?

    Thanks in advance.

In the event that ballistic84 does not return to this thread as his issue has been resolved, I note that he does have a contact form on this page http://literalinterpretations.wordpress.com/thats-me/

Anyone doing CSS at wordpress.COM really needs to read and understand this post by devblog which explains why things disappear and how to keep it from happening.

Found this thread while looking for help for my Misty Look custom header problem. I don’t know anything about CSS – I’m not trying to script anything.

I go to Dashboard, Appearance, Header. To upload a new header image, I’m choosing a png file from my (Mac OS X) desktop. Nothing appears but an empty white box where the image should be.

The image does appear in my Media library as a jpg file.

I tested this earlier today and it worked. I’ve also tested it on two separate blogs. I’ve also tried to grab jpg files from my photo library elsewhere on my hard drive and still nothing appears.

Any suggestions or information would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

First off, always size the header image to the exact size required by the theme you are using. The crop feature here is, and has been a mess for quite a while.

Also make sure that the files you are uploading have been SAVED as gif’s or jpg’s or png’s not just renamed with that extension. Also make sure that the file name only has lowercase letters and numbers. Don’t use any special characters, and the only “point/period” should be the one between the file name and the extension.

Thanks for the fast reply and good advice.

I experimented with different sizes and also tried to get the image the exact size required by the header (even used a pixel to inches converter because I was originally playing with an image in Pages) (Your comment made me wonder if my test worked earlier because I had accidently tried a size that the upload/crop feature would accept? Who knows what it was though… I was playing around and didn’t pay attention).

I made sure to save the png file I wanted as a jpg file.

Just now tried to upload the image (of the exact size required) into the custom headers of MistyLook, PressRow, and Day Dream. Day Dream was the theme I was using previously and I had no problems adding my own image to the custom header a few days ago.

So I retraced my steps from days ago, used Day Dream, used the exact same picture I’d used previously, grabbing it directly from iPhoto, and I still got the same result as tonight: empty white box with question mark.

This is intriguing. I’m turning in and will revisit in the morning.

    Thanks again.

Never use photos directly from iPhoto. Always export the image from the file menu in iPhoto and save it to your desktop and then upload that image.

    OK – Thanks.
I just realized I’m in the wrong forum for a newbie with no CSS experience. It was only the title of this thread that caught my eye.
