Misty Look Theme: can sidebar have links?

  • Unknown's avatar

    My blog’s at http://mmadfan.wordpress.com

    Question:
I have been using the preview function to preview a bunch of different themes. (I recently changed to a new theme, but I’m not 100% happy with it.) Can the Misty Look theme support the Links widget? I don’t see the links in the preview of Misty Look, although I do see them in the sidebar when I preview other themes.

I ask this because I use a custom header, and I’d really rather not go through the process of changing everything over to the new theme only to discover that I have to change it all back again because the Links widget isn’t available for the Misty Look. (Right now, I’m using the Cutline theme.) I did a search and browsed around trying to find other users w/ Misty Look, but that didn’t help.

Is there any way of knowing in advance which widgets a theme supports? I noticed that one of the ones I tried (and then changed because it didn’t meet my needs) had its own version of the search bar — Ocean Mist, I think. Is there a resource that lists what themes have what widgets?

    Thanks!

Q: Can the Misty Look theme support the Links widget?
    A: Yes
Remove unwanted features from Misty Look http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/unwanted-features-in-mistylook/
    Themes with custom headers http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/

There is no wordpress.com “theme features” resource. However, we do have volunteers who have done their own testing and have blogged on it.

    * All themes are now widget ready.

Thanks very much! It was confusing to see the sidebar looking normal in the preview, but minus the Links widget. Appreciate the help & links.

Please be aware that every theme has a default display of widgets. But that isn’t binding in anyway and does not demonstrate every widget that can be used on any gioven wp.com blog. The moment you go here > Appearance > Widgets and drag and drop any widgets around that default disappears as your choices override it.

Yep, I know that about widgets. I’ve played w/ them before! :) I think I’ll see if I can get the links widget on Misty Look. I just won’t fix the header until I know I like it. (I like to make the header the specific size for the theme & upload that rather than have WP resize and crop it — the res isn’t very good if I do that.)

    Thanks.
