Mistyped email address when setting up account, and am now stuck…

Hi! Sooooo I have a rather embarrassing problem….

I just set up a WordPress account and was wondering why I never got a confirmation email. So I signed into my new WordPress and found that I had stupidly mistyped my email address while setting up the account. (I had used my school email address but accidentally typed the wrong suffix.) So I tried to correct it in my WordPress account settings, but I got a notice saying that I would be sent a confirmation email (to the mistake email address) before the change could be made.

So I can’t activate my account (since the mistyped email address that I registered with doesn’t exist), but I ALSO can’t correct the email address because I need to be able to confirm the change via that mistakenly typed non-existent email account….

I had considered just deleting the account and starting over again. But then I read that I would likely not be able to re-use the domain name I chose, and that would be really disappointing! :'(

    So my question is this:

How can I keep my domain name but fix my email address problem? (I have the free account and my domain name is a free ‘.wordpress’ one.)

Thank you for any help/advice! :)

  • Hi there!

No worries, you’re not the first person to have done that and likely, not the last one ;)
When changing the email, you should receive the confirmation to the new address. In fact, it seems that you have already changed the email address on your account so, do you still need help?
If so, what’s the address you want to use on your account?
You can type it in its own line and it will be visible only to the WordPress.com staff.
