Mixed identities

1] This is NOT related to my recent somewhat bungled attempt to change my “display” name.

2.1 As anagasto I share this computer with WordPress blogger https://100swallows.wordpress.com/

2.2 Recently a wordpress blogger friend of ours died. 100swallows wrote an obituary offline to be published on that friend’s WordPress blog at https://ivdanu.wordpress.com/about/.

2.3 To reach that blog, 100swallows logged in at his own blog without problem.

2.4 From there, through his Blogroll, he reached that friend’s blog without problem.

2.5 But then WordPress identified him as “anagasto” and would NOT let him publish.

3] As you know, both of us have been on WordPress for more than 7 years and WordPress has never mixed up our identities.

Could you check this? We will be thankful for your help.

  • Hi anagasto, I’m sorry about your friend. :(

For the login mix-up, it sounds like a cookie had been saved somehow. Have him log out completely, or use an incognito window, then log into the that site using the correct login.

For what it’s worth, the login you would need to post on that site is neither of the two you’ve mentioned. I hope that helps.

    Supernovia,

Thank you for your answer, but there is a misunderstanding.
100swallows did not try to log in there=at Danu’s site.

    See above 2.4:
Without problem he had logged in at his own blog to look up Danu’s blog address in order to publish the obituary as a “comment” on Danu’s blog, but

    See above 2.5
as soon as he reached that blog, a card popped up telling him that since he was anagasto he could not (publish? write?) on Danu’s blog. At any rate, we have since found out that Danu left his comment section as subject to moderator’s approval, and nothing can be done about that anymore.

100swallows told me that the same had happened before, elsewhere.
I think the problem is due to Facebook. If you don’t mind, I would like to come back to this when I know whether 100swallows has tried again.

    Supernovia,

100swallows did the test and gave me two screenshots to show that he logs in without problem, but as soon as he tries to publish a comment on somebody else’s WordPress blog, my icon pops up.

As far as I can see, I cannot send you the screenshots from here and will try to do it from my Gmail address.

    Thank you for your help.

  • It sounds like your cookies are corrupted somehow.

Please go ahead and clear cache and any wordpress.com cookies from your browser, or better yet, if you must use the same OS login, set up a separate Firefox profile for each of you:

Your idea to create Firefox profiles might work. I have just read their instructions, and they are intelligible for people like me.
    Thank you very much.

    No.
The Firefox instructions are in English.
There is a Spanish version, but the translator did not translate the codes.
For instance, my computer does not have any “program files”, but only “Archivos de programa”.
This is just to let you know what finally happened, not to ask for more help.
You gave those 100swallows and me a good start.
    Bye,
    a.

  • If you ever use Chrome, you could consider letting one person use that. Or use Chrome’s profiles — those are actually pretty easy to set up (People > Add New).
