mixed themes and widget issues
-
hello,
can you please help with the following (i’m using Firefox, Opera, and Chrome on Ubuntu 12.04)
– the theme at http://mygreycity.wordpress.com/ include features that belong to a theme i tried out some time today – namely, the header links “Home-Calendar-Events List-Featured Events List” (sorry i can’t remember the name of this theme);
– i’ve been trying to install the Blogum Theme (and a variety of others) the whole afternoon: no matter what I do – empty the cache, delete cookies, re-start the browser, re-boot the machine, delete the blog and start a new one…a) either the theme’s widgets (upon installation) don’t show in the sidebar widget area (appearance>widget) or new widgets added to such area do not appear on the blog or features belonging to other themes appear out of nowhere (again, no matter how often i re-load, empty the cache, and so on);
b) widgets are displaced (ie, not in the right order as i arrange them on appearance>widget) or even appear at odd areas of the theme, totally out of place.I’m regularly using tools to build websites, etc, on this machine/browswer, and don’t have any problem. I wish i could upload a couple of screenshots of various WordPress themes installed (from the WordPress site) at different stages and still looking a total mess hours later (see above re: cache, etc)…
is this a server issue? is there anyway to clean up old or residual files after installing new themes?
thanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is it possible that you activated one of these themes?
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/search/eventbrite/
If so you can reactivate theme again and remove what you don’t want prior to switching back to the theme you do want. -
thanks for your prompt reply.
you’re correct: i did use the evenbrite theme. i did as you suggested, though to no avail:
a) the evenrbrite’s Sidebar Widget Area at appearance>widget is empty (I didn’t add or remove anything when i installed it);
b) now the Sidebar Widget Area of mygreycity.wordpress.com is also empty while four widgets appear on the blog;
c) the header links “Home-Calendar-Events List-Featured Events List” (that do belong to the evenbrite them) are still there… -

Hello There,
Are you still having trouble with this? I have just taken a look at your theme and am unable to see the left over elements from the eventbrite theme you described.
If you do still need help let me know.

The problem is that you are not in the US. Unfortunately there is a known bug that is preventing the Eventbrite widget and themes from working properly for non-US users. Staff are aware of the bug and are working on it.

thanks for looking into this.
appreciated.the blog seems to be working fine right – no worries re: Eventbrite, i don’t really need it at the moment .
cheers

@raincoaster Thanks for the heads up on that, I learn something new every day :)
@rawimageraw glad everything is working for you now. You may follow this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/eventbrite-malformed-request?replies=18 to learn more about the issue. We’ll update that thread when things are fixed if you decide to use the Eventbrite theme in the future.
Cheers :)

hello there,
i’m afraid it’s happening again: i can neither see my widgets nor modify them – after trying out a couple of themes and settling on ‘monochrome’.
went through the whole routine (plz see above) to no avail, though.
can you please help? thanks.

Hello There,
Glad you found a theme you like :) I have just tested your widget area. I was able to add and save a Text Widget. I wonder if this is because I am inside the United States. It’s not that I don’t believe you but a screenshot for our Code Wranglers would be awesome. Could you post a screenshot to either your media library or an external image hosting site. Thanks.

hello,
i’ve just found out i can add a text widget but cannot edit or remove any of the existing widgets. No idea…
anyway, can you please have a look at http://mygreycity.wordpress.com – i’ve just posted a screenshot. Cheers.

Hi,
Monochrome has a few default widgets in place when no other widgets are present (“Recent Entry”, “Archive”, “Category”). You can remove those by adding any other widget to the space. If you’d like nothing to appear, you can add a blank text widget.
The material above that (the “If you’d like to get in touch”, RSS feed link, and the search box) are built-in to the theme and aren’t widgets.
If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know!

thanks kraftbj and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
the ‘tricks’ you suggested work. now it’s just a matter of actually making use of the blog :)
