Mixup with posts either by Choco or SiteMeter or???

Recently changed to Choco / http://peregrine5700.wordpress.com

Either something is very wrong with WordPress Choco or WordPress in general or Site Meter. I have already written to Site Meter and now am writing to the forums here.

According to Site Meter, many many people have been reading an article by Walter Williams titled “Up From the Projects.” There were so many hits that I decided to click onto one of those “Up From the Project” Site Meter links (the one that a person either landed or or left from).

Lo and behold, when I clicked the “Up From the Projects” link, it took me to another of Walter Williams’ articles called “Obama Cannot Be Defeated In 2012”! I then searched all of my posts for the “Up From the Project” article by him and it was not there! It was gone.

I then decided to re-do the “Up From the Projects” article and re-post it, although to the new viewer, it would not be a re-post but the first post of its kind.

What bothers me is that somehow, my “Up From the Projects” post got lost, gone, and Site Meter is showing a link titled “Up From The Projects” but it takes a reader to “Obama Cannot win In 2012.”

Can someone help to figure out whether the problem is with Choco or WordPress? I guess tomorrow Site Meter will contact me about it.

Hi. Have you heard back from SiteMeter?

Airodyssey, Hi! And this is incredible that just as I was writing yet again to Site Meter about this, your email popped into my mailbox. Site Meter’s reply is at the bottom of this little reply box. I will restate the problem:

    To Site Meter:
The reply I got from Site Meter on this issue didn’t seem to go with my question/the problem, so I will try again and hope that this can be fixed.

I noticed that the top ranking entry page was “Walter Williams Up From The Projects,” yet when I click on that link , it does not go to a post of that title. It goes instead to a post titled “Why Obama cannot lose the 2012 election.” Both of those posts exist in my blog. Can you check and see if you can figure it out, por favor?

    Hello Lorna,

Thanks for writing. The other hits may be from cached pages that are still located on search engines. They store cached pages for a few days until they realize that it was deleted or removed. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

    Thanks,

There is nothing wrong with the URLs of the posts in question when I click them they go to the correct post.

Hi Timethief, and thanks for checking. The problem is odd! It must be Site Meter, then. When I click onto my Site Meter site and check the most popular entry pages, there is a high number of “Up From The Projects,” and when I click onto that link, it goes (still) to “Why Obama cannot lose in 2012.”

Do you think that this is a Site Meter problem? (I haven’t enough insight about this to guess, but it seems like it is.)

Andy from Site Meter sent me the email which has clarified why things look like they do on Site Meter, and thus I see that Site Meter is not at fault.

I still don’t see how this happened, but it did. Here is what Andy wrote (below). Is there anything I can do to change that mistake that somehow got there in the URL in the address field? Or should I just live with it and leave it alone?

To clarify: I do not have a post which combines both the “Obama Cannot Lose in 2012” and “Walter Williams Up From the Projects.” I have two SEPARATE posts of those two articles. I have no idea how the address for the Obama Cannot Win ended up having the Up From The Projects appended it.

    Hello Lorna,

The correct link is being displayed. It was just shortened because the whole link cannot be displayed on the ranking page. The shortened version of the link is http://peregrine5700.wordpress…williams-up-from-the-projects while it really is http://peregrine5700.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/obama-cannot-be-defeated-in-2012-video-walter-williams-up-from-the-projects. As a result, the link is correct but you may be interpreting it wrong because SiteMeter doesn’t display the whole URL. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

At this juncture fixing the URL is not a good idea since the search engines have picked that post up. Simply forget about it and move on because if you correct it, then the search engines will see 404 file not found errors and get cranky.

    Just forget it.

Hi SacredPath…OK, I will just leave it alone. Sounds like a wise plan. Meanwhile, though, do you have any idea what could have happened? Could it be something I did?

Well I doubt that wordpress edited your permalink and added that additional text to it, but I can’t see that you would do that, so I have no idea.

SacredPath… My guess is that it must have involved me starting out with one post and title and then changing my mind and putting in new content and new title after publishing, and somehow the two combined into one Address URL.
