mobile app crashing, not receiving notifications?

  • Unknown's avatar

My Mobile app has crashed twice today, in my “blogs I follow”there is a blog listed which I never followed? And, while today’s stats seem to show quite a few visitors there is not one notification of a “like” this seems unusual to me, at least one or two “likes” have pinged just moments after all my previous posts? Any ideas? Could I have mistakenly changed something in settings? Help, thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Help! New blogpost today with only 2 likes, when just days ago each post starting pinging with notifications within minutes of publishing? Running iOS 7.0.4 on an iPad with WordPress Automatic 3.8.5…do notifications come through email? Could my email or OS be compromised? This is also the second day where my Reader sometimes shows I’m following a blog that I never signed up for? Cache is cleared regularly and HTTPS is on. Something seems wrong…help

I’ve never followed this blog, and when I open my WordPress App the reader page pops open with this blog?
    Thank you!

I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with the mobile app.

I’m not sure I understand what the issue is with the likes notifications. Are you expecting notifications in the app and aren’t receiving them? Are you receiving notifications via email? When you’re in the app and go to Notifications in the side panel (the window that opens when you click on the three horizontal lines in the left corner), do you see the notifications of likes and comments?

I don’t see that your account bpmarcus is following the blog okanaganokanogan.com. Please check to see if that blog is showing up in the same side panel that your notifications.

As far as the crashing goes, can you determine any pattern for when it crashes? It may also help to delete the WordPress app and reinstall it to see if that fixes that issue.

    Thanks for your response!

Overall, for all that the app does it works quite well…just a bit glitchy on a few points it seems.

The “likes and notifications” issue seems to have worked itself out…they seem to be coming in fine for the last couple of posts, the last couple of days. For a couple of days and a couple of posts I received no likes or notifications which seemed odd to me…? Seems to be ok now.

When I open the app from my iPad “desktop” the sidebar menu includes Reader-Notifications-My blog-Settings. It is in this Reader where the okanaganokanogan.com blog shows up? And now for the past 2 days this app reader also shows me following my own blog? When I actually log into the dashboard Admin Reader-Blogs I follow-Manage subscriptions the listing of blogs I follow is correct? Just seems to be some glitch between the Readers of when I’m actually logged in or not?

    Thank you!

Could you take a screenshot of the window that shows the blog listed in your followed blogs (to do so on an iPad, click on the round “home” button at the same time you push the power button, and it will save to your photo library). You can upload that image to your media library so I can take a look.

Also, could you please confirm that you are in fact logged in as bpmarcus on your iPad? Thanks!

2 screenshots uploaded to media library. First is the App Reader page and sidebar before logging in showing the okanaganokanogan site and one of my own posts as blogs I follow…second is my log in

Thanks for the screenshots. I’ve reported it to our developers to look into this further for you, as it seems like there may be something odd on our end. I’ll let you know when I find more out for you or if I have any further questions. I appreciate your patience as we dig into this issue.

Thanks so much!! Your assistance is invaluable and attentive beyond belief!

Today I noticed a perhaps another strange thing, my notifications say that I now have 22 followers, when I click that notification 9 followers are listed with a link at the bottom of the page to “see all followers.” When I click the “see all” I am directed to my stats page and can not see all who are following…seems odd!?

    Again, Big Thanks!

I see 25 followers (24 WordPress.com followers, 1 email follower) on your stats page, which you can access by clicking on the graph in your admin bar, and then scrolling to the bottom of that page and clicking on “blog” under the number.

  • Unknown's avatar

Aha! I can now see followers from the stats page!

    Again, Thanks!

    That’s great!

We’re still looking into the issue of the strange blog that appears in your Reader, and I’ll let you know when I have more information for you.

A related question about receiving notifications and “likes” and I ask because for the last couple of days, again, I’ve only received a couple of “likes” on new posts. On some days I get 6-8 “likes” within minutes of posting, then other days silence…it seems like this might have more to do with visibility of my blog rather than one post being that much more “likable” than another?

Do all tags listed on a post automatically get listed on the blog search in the order that a post is published? I just did a tag search for 3-4 of the tags I posted this morning and did not see my blog on any of them?

Related to that strange blog on my app reader weirdness, at the risk of sounding completely paranoid, is it possible for a blogs visibility on the search menu or it’s “likes” and stats etc to be “hijacked” or misdirected?

There seems to be strange things happening

I do not yet have an update on your original issue, and I’ll keep you posted about that.

    As to your other issues:

I looked at your blog’s stats, and it looks pretty normal for a new-ish blog.

On the issue of your blog showing up in the Reader, I see your posts showing up in tags I’ve checked; if you still are having issues with this, let me know which tag(s) aren’t working for you (and note, popular ones may be used so much that your post drops out of sight quickly, so it’s easier to check the less common terms).

Finally as to your question about Likes – that’s really a toss up. Some posts will resonate more than others, and I have no explanation or algorithm that could provide a clue as to why some posts get tons of likes and others don’t, even if they have similar traffic.

And, again Thanks so much! I hope not to be a pain in the neck with questions!

In spite of these few things, I really am having fun with this blogging world, it is all new to me and I’ve learned a lot in less than a month!

Thank you for your time and help!

    Good morning…

I posted an entry now 37 minutes ago as of this message, I quickly did a tag search for each of the tags I listed and did not see my post listed anywhere on the search? While I do see my post listed as published when I do a search of my blog name it does not seem to show up on a tag search? Is there some lag time between being published and being listed in the tag search. Something seems strange here, again…

    Merry almost Christmas

It looks like you have more than 15 total categories + tags, meaning that post will not show up in the Reader. In the future, try to use fewer tags, and you should see your posts showing up again.
