On a smart phone the website has two menus one drop down menu at the top and one full menu at the bottom. I only want to the one at the top so how do I get rid of the bottom one?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, it looks to be the way the Twenty Sixteen theme was designed and so the footer menu cannot be hidden without an upgrade plan, either Premium or Business.

I’ve tagged this thread for Staff confirmation of the above.

    Hi there,

I can confirm that Twenty Sixteen’s menu displays in the footer on mobile devices by default.

Having the menu placed both in the header and the footer means that it remains easily accessible on mobile devices, where there’s often lots of scrolling involved in order to get to the bottom or top of a page.

@thebrandmaketh: There isn’t a built in setting to change this behaviour. You could, however, hide the footer menu using some custom CSS (which is an option available to those with the WordPress.com Premium or Business plans).

If you don’t wish to upgrade then you could consider a different theme from our repository. The majority of the themes in our repository consistently display a menu in one area across devices:

If you let us know a little about what you’re looking for in a theme, then I’d be happy to offer some specific suggestions.
