My blog was working fine and adjusting the way it’s supposed to when viewing on mobile platforms, but then I pointed my previously-purchased URL on Godaddy to it, and now it doesn’t. If I view under sitename.wordpress.com it adjusts for each device, but when looking under sitename.com, it doesn’t. Any thoughts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, my first thought is: What is the URL of the site referred to and why has it not been posted?
This is wordpress.COM support. We cannot answer any questions posted here accurately until we have the relevant URL and have confirmed hosting.
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM. That support is found at http://wordpress.ORG/support/
(3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page. That support is found at http://jetpack.com/support/WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, run different theme versions of themes with the same names, and many people get confused about the two. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
The wordpress.ORG support forums are at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

, but then I pointed my previously-purchased URL on Godaddy to it, and now it doesn’t.
Domain forwarding is not supported and using it means it will fail because our wordpress.COM sites are no on permanent URLs.
Domain mapping is not done free of charge. An upgrade is required.
Read: IP Address For Domain Mapping
WordPress.com sites are not on permanent IP addresses. Sop if your use the IP addresses the domain mapping will eventually fail.

re: purchasing WordPress.COM upgrades
WordPress.com provides free blogs and hosts them free of charge. There are no bandwidth charges. All WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. Free features are listed here https://en.wordpress.com/features/
We have 4 different plans: free, personal, premium and business. All hosting is free regardless of which plan you choose. You can view all wordpress.com plan features here https://wordpress.com/pricing/ Add a plan for each of your sites here: http://store.wordpress.com/plans/.
Details:
There are no trial upgrades, no monthly payment plans and no bulk deal upgrades. We are billed annually and we must pay for all upgrades in full at the time of purchase after selecting a plan.
Also note that purchase orders are not accepted.
Each upgrade bundle applies to a single blog only and is for a single year only when it is due to be renewed. (The only exceptions are one time upgrades for premium themes and guided transfers.)
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ The domain or mapping of any existing domain URL is included in the pricing for a personal upgrade, a premium and a business upgrade. The WordPress.COM upgrade for mapping a domain must be renewed annually.
WordPress.com does not provide an email service for blogs on their sub domains or on custom domains. Please see these support docs
https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/How domain mapping works
Registering an underlying .wordpress.com URL first is required for domain mapping. What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/The Business upgrade which is the only plan that includes Google analytics also includes access to all premium themes. The Business plan also has other inclusions you can read about at:
Footer Credit Options https://en.support.wordpress.com/footer-credits/
SEO Tools https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo-tools/
However, note that there is no e-commerce capability under any plan here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/small-business-website-1?replies=2#post-2804631.
When you upgrade from Personal to Premium or from Premium to Business you pay the difference between the two plans https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-mapping-almost-impossible-to-understand-how-it-works?replies=4#post-2874012

Sorry, a little confused. The wordpress site is as above – asktonynow.wordpress.com. I’d previously purchased asktonynow.com from Godaddy, and pointed that url to the wordpress blog. After that, it stopped adjusting when viewing on mobile devices.

So if I’ve got this right, when I upgrade to a business plan – which, when I have more of it sorted out I intend to do – I can then embed the existing url within the wordpress settings?
-
Hi there,
I’d previously purchased asktonynow.com from Godaddy, and pointed that url to the wordpress blog
There is no domain mapping upgrade on our system for the domain, asktonynow.com, which means you’re pointing it here using a redirect and domain masking set up on GoDaddy’s end.
If you do that, your site will show at the domain. But what you are essentially doing is to load your WordPress.com website in an embedded frame on a different GoDaddy website, and that makes us completely unable to detect the size of the screen someone uses to view your site. As a result your site will always show the desktop view if accessed over the domain.
Other unpleasant side effects of domain forwarding and masking include: your free address won’t automatically redirect to your domain, so if someone types in the free address, they’ll see the free address instead of the domain; the SSL certificate we issue for your site cannot be applied to your domain, so if someone tries to load your domain over https they’ll get a warning that your site is insecure and might be trying to steal their information; the action bar won’t show or won’t work correctly; the Edit buttons on your site won’t be visible or won’t work correctly; some widgets won’t work; we won’t be able to accurately track views and visits to your site so your stats will be inaccurate or simply won’t update.
So we absolutely do not recommend this method to connect your domain to WordPress.com. I know GoDaddy probably recommended this to you, but that’s because you’re actually paying them for hosting you don’t need in order for the domain masking to work.
The correct way to connect your domain to your site is by changing the name servers at GoDaddy, and then adding the domain mapping upgrade on our end, as @timethief already explained. You will need to purchase one of our plans under My Site ->Plans to do this.
All our plans include domain mapping, so you don’t need the Business Plan unless you also want other features included in that plan.

thanks for the extensive reply. godaddy aren’t actually charging for hosting, just domain name registration: i’ve used forwarding before for other sites, but never with wordpress. i’ll make the change when i upgrade… thanks….
