Mobile View Post/Page – Applying Margins/Padding
-
Just one more thing, if I may…
When I publish a post in ‘The Bigger Read’ category, is it possible for the email notification that’s sent out to subscribers, to carry a link to the landing page of ‘The Bigger Read?’ That way, subscribers can see all the post images and posts in that category.
I’d then do the same thing for the ‘Right Now In Mental Health’ post category, too.
Thanks, again.

Hey there,
First, I am having trouble reproducing the “wpcom-live-preview” error. Can you try using an incognito/private browser window to see if that resolves the issue? It may be related to a browser issue.
Second, there is no CSS that would make the text one size larger. You would need to set the mobile text size manually larger for each kind of text on your mobile site. For example, your headers, paragraph text, button text, etc.
Third, I see the map links out to the intended destination. Can you clarify what you are trying to create specifically?
In reference to customizing newsletter emails, it is not possible to add content to the emails themselves without signing up for an email service such as MailPoet.
Hope this helps!

Hi there,
Thanks, for your reply.
1. I’m not very computer literate as you can tell, but I’ve updated my browser and the wp-preview error issue has now cleared. Thank-you.
2. I’d previously tried to set the mobile-text sizes manually, through the editor ‘Block’ control area, but as I mentioned before, in doing so the desktop text becomes enormous. Could you possibly tell me how to do this specifically, please? I can’t see what you mean, by ‘mobile site’; I don’t seem to have one.
3. I’m trying to place the text ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’ on to the map itself as a link using the ‘Add Text Over Image’, icon and then ‘Embed’ from the block options. When I do this, instead of just seeing the words ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’, on the map as a link, I see the words of the https:// url as well. See below.

4. I’m a little shocked, I have to say, to find that something as ordinary as customising the contents of subscriber-notification emails is something I have to pay extra for, in a different application. Why, is this? I understand that Mailpoet is free up and to 1,000 subscribers and at present, I only have 40, but still. Also, I can’t even use the free aspect of mailpoet, unless I upgrade to another level in WordPress, to be eligible for plugins. I’m sorry, but this doesn’t seem right, at all.
Thanks, once again, for your time.

Hello,
A couple of days ago, one of the images from a post in the ‘Right Now In Mental Health’ category, simply disappeared. So, I put it back. This morning, I now see that an image on the lower part of the main landing page has disappeared, too, so I’ve replaced that, as well.

This WordPress experience seems to be deteriorating, and I’d like to get it resolved. I wanted to use the software because as you know, it powers 40% of the world’s websites, in addition to which, major organisations use it, too. That seemed like unparalleled reliability and security.
I’m in my fifties, and I’ve never been computer literate as I’ve said, and so the attraction of using the user-friendly nature of WordPress was a no-brainer. Obviously, I’ve been a bit of a pain in contacting you so much (I’ve worked in customer services, so I get it), but if there are issues – some of which, have been of my own ignorance – there are issues.
The Boxed Bio theme is beautiful and worth the money, and I’ve been really happy with what I’ve been able to create with limited skills. Trial and error, is a great way to learn. Nevertheless, if I could have answers to questions 2, 3 and 4, in my previous message and also why my images are now sporadically disappearing, I’d be grateful.
Thank-you, as always.

Hi there,
I’m not sure that I’ve spotted this issue when I visited your site. For me all the images are showing as expected. Is the N. America image still missing on your end? Here is what I see:

There is not a separate “mobile only” text size settings for blocks. The common solution here is to use CSS, but it’s generally more complicated than that, since you typically need to add multiple lines of code with varying “breakpoints” that set the font size for small phone screens, large phone screens, tablets of various size, and desktop (which is set via the block itself.)
To see the mobile view of your site, one of the easiest methods is to resize your browser window to emulate the general size of a mobile device. For example here are two windows, one showing your site in an approximate desktop scale, and one that emulates mobile.

See below.
I’m not seeing this on your site now, have you changed it since taking your screenshot? If you can set that up again it will help us, as we will be able to see how you have things set up, and then try to replicate that on a test site to see if we can replicate the issue.
4. I’m a little shocked, I have to say, to find that something as ordinary as customising the contents of subscriber-notification emails is something I have to pay extra for, in a different application. Why, is this?
Subscriptions on WordPress.com offer basic functionality but do not offer the ability to set up custom email templates. It is on our list to consider for future updates, so I have added your upvote, thanks!
For now, since you have such a small list, you may want to consider connecting to Mailchimp to manage your newsletters. They offer a free plan if your list is under 500, and you can connect to your WordPress.com site using the steps here:
On WordPress.com, we offer a whole suite of tools to grow your audience. One of these tools is the Mailchimp block for your visitors to subscribe to your Mailchimp audience (i.e., your email list) and receive updates via email. This guide will show you how to use it on your site. Add the Mailchimp Block To add the Mailchimp block, click on the + Block Inserter icon and search for “maiThis will offer a signup on your site that connects to your Mailchimp account, where you will manage your newsletters.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi there,
Thanks, for your reply.
I’d already replaced the missing images by the time you got to the site, so they were showing as normal. If it happens again, I’ll certainly let you know.
2. Okay, I can see that the mobile text size is a complex issue, so I’ll leave that alone unless or until I develop CSS skills. Thanks, for clarifying that in detail.
3. Yes, I changed it back after taking the screenshot. The basic problem is that after inserting the URL link and then trying to insert the label text ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’, as the replacement link text (which is obviously the more desirable presentation), the process is nullified.

However, I can’t set it up to leave it like that because I’m waiting for work-related communication, that involves the website. It’s more of a CV and portfolio than a traffic-drawing exercise. So, is there some way to arrange a time in the evening, when I could set it up knowing that it’ll be looked at soon afterwards? I know you guys are busy, so I appreciate that it may not be easy or possible.
Alternatively, re: your test site; the steps I’m taking are…
a) Engage the block with the map in it, so that the white perimeter appears around it.
b) Click ‘Embed’, in the options bar.
c) Drop in the URL… https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/share-who-report-lifetime-anxiety-or-depression
d) Copy and paste the label text… ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’
e) Try to replace the URL with the label text, which unless I’m wrong, is the function of the embed.
f) Yet, the URL’s removal deactivates the link, which seems technically logical, but in turn, renders the ‘Embed’ aspect void.
4. Thanks, for explaining the email subscription point, and it’s good to hear that it’s something you’re already considering. I’ve read a few threads about the issue, so it seems to be on a few people’s minds. In the meantime, I’ll look into the alternative you’ve suggested.
So, now I’ll wait to hear from you about the third issue, alone.
Thanks, again.

Hi again,
It is possible to add a link to the text (that you placed over your image) but it sounds like you may be doing it in a way that is different than expected, instead please try the following
- Click on the image block, then the option to add text over your image
- Add your text
- In the floating toolbar above the text, locate the link icon (shown in my screenshot)
- This will launch a popup you can add your URL to
- Hit the Enter key on your key board, and then link will be added to the text as a hyperlink
Screenshot of where to add your link URL:

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi there,
Thanks very much, for the instructions. I followed them to the letter and I’m getting the same result.

So, I’m just wondering if I’m explaining myself properly. I’m trying to create a situation whereby a visitor to the site clicks on the text ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’, which is sitting on the image. When they do that, it then takes them through the map.
As you can see in the screenshot above, though, the URL is in the text box in addition to the text ‘Global Anxiety & Depression Map’. So, my question is: how do I place the URL link in the text box, without it being visible?
Thanks, again, for your time.

Thanks for clarifying.
I think the issue may be that you are clicking on the text, but not highlighting all the text with your cursor. Since you want to turn the entire text into a link you will need to highlight it all.
Instead it appears you may be clicking the words (but not highlighting them) which results in the URL being added in the place you clicked (the place your cursor is) instead of being applied as a hyperlink.
If you watch the video at this link, I recorded my screens so you can see how highlighting all the words (before you add the URL) will result in the linked image text you are trying to set up.Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

That’s brilliant. Thank-you and the video tutorial was an excellent idea.
Maybe, WordPress should consider producing a whole series specifically for IT fools like me! :-)
Thanks, for all your time and patience. Really appreciate it.

Glad that helped! We don’t have such a video series (thanks for the excellent suggestion) but you may wish to check out our free webinars, where our team of happiness engineers share tips and tricks for working with your WordPress site.
We do lots of demos, show a lot “by doing” and also the sessions are 100% live so there is a Q&A session at then end. You can learn more here: https://wordpress.com/learn/webinars/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
