  • Hello there,

To check, do you need assistance with feisungroup.com?

The reason why I ask is because, it doesn’t look like this site is hosted with WordPress.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I need help. I bought the domain from Bluehost and want to use WordPress to edit my website. What do you mean this site is not hosted with WordPress.com?

  • Hi there –

    No worries. I’ll explain further.

There are 2 different versions of WordPress.

    1. WordPress.com (that’s us) is a managed hosting environment. We handle all the back end, and nitty gritty details, that need attention in order to keep your site up and performing well. This includes security and spam protection. Our team is also available to help you with getting the site set up, and answering questions along the way.

In order to use feisungroup.com on our platform, the domain will need to be pointed to us. This is commonly referred to as domain mapping. To set that up, you’ll go to https://wordpress.com/plans/ and review the different options. There is a significant discount for paying annually – review those plans, with the idea of your project, and decide which plan you want to use going forward. The domain mapping is included in all the plans and that is the price you would pay us for a year. And, if you aren’t sure which plan to choose, send us some more details about what you envision for the project and what functionality you need on the site, then we can help you pick the right plan.

    2. WordPress.org is the other version, and it is an open source software that you can use with a different hosting provider to build and maintain a site. The biggest difference being that you are going to be on your own to figure out maintenance, updates, security, and so forth. There is a lot involved with running this version of WordPress. The trade off would be that you have unlimited possibilities (which isn’t always a good thing) and all the headache that comes with those. With this option you would need to pay a hosting company too.

Give this a read for more information about the differences in the 2 versions of WordPress: https://wordpress.com/go/website-building/wordpress-com-vs-wordpress-org/

Write back to us here with questions. We stick close by, even on the weekends, and will be happy to get you set up here, or pointed in the right direction for your project.

Thank you very much. And I still have no idea to choose which plan. I want to design my website to introduce our works and members, then post it to the public. Can I choose those free ones to achieve this purpose? How can I point my domain to WordPress.com? And I also want to know what Jetpack is.

  • Hi there, what you’re describing can even be done on the Free plan.

However, to connect your custom domain, you will need any paid plan, even just the Personal plan: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

As for Jetpack, don’t worry about that, it’s already built-in here at WordPress.com, even under the Free plan. :)

Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Thanks, I’m using a free plan now, but how do I fix the Mod_Security bug when I start to design my website with WordPress?

  • Hi @shenxiaoyuan, if you’re hosting with us you won’t need to worry about Mod_Security. We have a security team that handles everything for you.

That said, usually Mod_Security won’t get in the way of normal site editing, and I’m not sure the type of editing that would trigger that warning would be supported here. Can you clarify what you were hoping to do when this problem started? I’m sure we can point you to a better option.

Thank you very much. Every time I click the ‘edit’ button on the themes page, it shows that ‘Not Acceptable!
An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.’
And I want to use the theme I chose to design my website, but it always shows this error; I don’t know how to solve it then I can continue to edit my website or if there are other methods to edit my website.

  • Since your site is not hosted here on WordPress.com, to get help with that issue, you need to post in the WordPress.org support forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

If you’re interested in migrating your site over to our platform (WordPress.com), let us know, and we’ll be happy to help you.

Thanks, how to migrate my site over to WordPress.com?

  • We have created an automated import process that can move everything (posts, pages, media files, themes, and plugins) over to WordPress.com. Here’s the guide:
