Moderating Comments?

  Hello again WPgods,

  So today I’m trying to learn how to moderate comments. I’m in the comment section of the wp-admin. It says I have 18 pending comments. But as it turns out all the “comments” are actually links to related articles.

  As example, see this page:
  https://nuke-ban.org/2020/02/13/vote-joe-cirincione-for-congress/

  What’s listed as a comment for this page is the link to “A Nuclear Weapons Congressional Candidate?” at the very bottom of the page. All “comments” listed for approval are of this nature.

  I have low traffic, and just turned on comments for a couple of pages, so I’m not surprised at all that I don’t have any real comments yet.

  I am however puzzled by the interface that tells me I have 18 pending comments when actually I have none.

  It’s entirely possible I’m doing something entirely wrong, so corrections are welcome where needed. Thanks!

  Hi there,

  Yes, I see the 18 pending comments on this end as well.. It looks like an excerpt from your posts -very spammy looking. I would just trash the comments for now and if they continue to happen, let us know. It looks like they stopped about a month ago.

  Actually, these appear to be Pingbacks:

  https://wordpress.com/support/comments/pingbacks/

  You can indeed disable pingbacks because they serve no other purpose other than notifying you that there was a crosslink from another. Post. Here are instructions on how to disable pingbacks:

  Thank you! Yes, I’ve been meaning to ask about pingbacks too, as I get a notification every time I link from one of my articles to another. I never understood what the point of that was.

  Appreciate the link, I’ll read up on pingbacks and try to sort it out.
