How can I change out the setting ,that if some one wants to leave a comment on my blog, that they post a comment with out the moderator –accepting it first? can I change this setting?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes but if you open your blog to allow commenting without Moderation you are going to experience autoposted spam. That’s inevitable as 80% of all comments sent to the WordPress.com domain are spam.

Default comment settings are on this page > Settings > Discussion and the guide is here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#before-a-comment-appears

Hi timethief, you said Default comment settings are on this page > Settings > Discussion and the guide is here >

I can’t find my settings page. I see personal settings under my account. by no settings.

    Please help.

    Thanks, Pamela

    Hello again,
Are you an Admin on the blog in question or not?
    See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

Have you gone to scree options on the top right hand corner of your Admin page and clicked that link and selected all the modules in it or not?
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/

Note that the Settings are found at the bottom of the far left hand side of menu column on the Admin page of your blog and you have to click “Settings” in order to click “Discussion”.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes I’m the Admin on the blog, at least I think I am. I created and write it, but maybe wordpress is the admin? I don’t know. Still learning my way around.

This is how I try to get to the settings. I go to http://www.wordpress.com. Then there’s no box for me to log it, I imagine it must remember me on this computer. How would I access the Admin page?

This is the site you linked to your WordPress.com username which ought to be linked to your wordpress.com blog instead http://www.kindleboards.com/book/?asin=B004PLO8OO

Please post the current URL for your WordPress.com blog starting with http:// before we proceed any further.

We do not support kindelborads here. Presumably kindleboards supports kindelborad sites so if you need help with that site you need to locate kindleborad support. If not and you are actually referring to a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.com we cannot even begin to help until we have a link to the free hosted WordPress.com blog.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok. I thought that link box meant where did I want people to go read free book samples after reading a blog article of mine. What does that box mean by the way? I just changed it back to http://www.jlep.wordpress.com .

Plus now my comments to you are showing Member since June 29, 2011, but I have been a member at least a few years. Oh my, did I erase my whole blog accidentally?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi — You are only a member of the forum since today. That’s why it gives that date.

WordPress.com blogs don’t have a www in front of them, so you only need “http://jlep.wordpress.com” for the link — the www just gets stripped out.

You need to log in to your account. When you are logged in, if you don’t immediately arrive at your dashboard, you will see a grey bar at the top of your screen. Click “My Blog,” then click “Dashboard.” That is where all of your controls for your blog are, including the “Settings” module that timethief directed you to.

    WP Admin Dashboard

    Hi mmadfan,

Ok when I followed those instructions. When I clicked on dashboard, global dashboard comes up. When I expanded that is shows Home, Blog Surfer, My Comments, Readomatic, Tag Surfer, Site Stats, My Blogs, My Subscriptions. Then Profile. When I expand the drop arrow from profile it shows My Profile and Personal settings. I don’t see a general settings anywhere.

Would it be okay if I sent you my login and you go in as me and see if mines is all twisted around and then I could rechange the password when you finish? We’ve been trying most of the day and I just don’t know.

    Pamela

I would prefer not. :) Thanks for the show of trust, though!

I think you clicked on the General Dashboard because you clicked on “My Account” first. You need to go to the “My Blog” link and click that. You can also get to it by clicking this http://jlep.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a series of modules. “Settings” is down toward the bottom. From there, you can click on “Discussion.”

I understand. That was just the despair speaking. :) But anyway, I think we’re almost there. I clicked on the htt://jlep.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
and it took me to a page that said

    smiley396.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
Do you want to register smiley396.wordpress.com?

I don’t want to register a new one. When a used to log in, it said hello jlep. The only thing I intended to change today, was to make my public display name hello Pamela Kay Noble Brown.

But I still want my user name to be jlep like before. What should I do now?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know why you landed on smiley396. Are you logged on as smiley396? Did you set up your blog (http://jlep.wordpress.com) with the same email address as you registered your smiley396 user account?

The blog associated with your icon leads to http://jlep.wordpress.com/, and since you are posting, I presume you’re logged into wordpress.

When you look at the gray bar, do you see “My Blog” or “My Blogs”? That is what you have to click in order to access your blog’s dashboard. You should be able to see the gray admin bar right now, since you appear to be logged into wordpress.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

It has a drop box and it says “My Blog”. When I click the drop arrow on “My Blog” it only has one otption and that is “Register a New Blog”.

But I don’t want a new blog, I like my old blog. Now when I just go in as a regular reader to jlep.wordpress.com and don’t sign in I see JLEP’s weblog perfectly fine. But I can’t get into my dashboard as the admin person when I sign in?

Unfortunately, I’ve gotta leave the building at work since they’re closing up now. But if you think of something else for me to try, I’ll try it as soon as I get home. Thanks for all of your help so far.

    Pamela.

Is http://jlep.wordpress.com/ your blog? That is the blog that is associated with your name. If it is your blog, did you sign up for it using a different address than you have associated with smiley396?

It sounds as though you may have two different usernames. You can have multiple blogs on wordpress.com all associated with the the same username & email address, or you can have multiple accounts using multiple email addresses.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, http://jlep.wordpress.com/ , is my blog. So guess what? When I got home I went into http://jlep.wordpress.com/wp-admin, it took me to a sign in screen, and I was able to sign in using jlep as my user name and my password.

Don’t know why I couldn’t get out of the twilight zone at work. It never would bring me to a sign in screen, just kept telling me to register smiley396. Anyway thanks so much for everything. Now that I’m in I can see the settings page, so I think I should be fine.

I really appreciate the help and patience. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    You’re welcome! Glad I could help. :)

(You will notice that you have two different avatars & two different names showing here on the forums — it seems that somehow you were logged in as a different user at work — either one that you registered with a different email and never created a blog for, or one that belongs to someone else who had been using the computer you were at, but who never signed out, so you were logged in as them. Be sure to log in as jlep in the future & not as smiley396, since your blog is associated with your jlep login.)
