Modernising a legacy website

I have a website with lots of historical information on it. I’d like to move it to WordPress or a similar website builder. Can a WordPress site cope with pages and pages of archive information?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there, thank you for considering WordPress.com!

Could you share the site address that you wish to be moved to WordPress.com? If possible, please let us know the platform for the site as well. It’ll be helpful for the volunteer members and Staff to guide you on the transfer.

    Thanks for offering to help.
My question is not how to do the transfer, it is whether a WordPress site would be manageable with a large number of pages. Basically, it is a huge site with a lot of historic information.
From what I can see, the WordPress design presents the pages in a list for amendment, addition of new ones etc. Is there a way that pages can be sorted into folders (for example) to make it easier to find and organise them for administrators?

    Hi janmwatterson,

I’d like to move it to WordPress or a similar website builder.

There are two types of WordPress — WordPress.com where sites are created and hosted here, then there’s a self hosted installation called WordPress.org. There is some information about the differences between the two here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Is there a way that pages can be sorted into folders (for example) to make it easier to find and organise them for administrators?

Sub pages can be created on WordPress.com but we don’t provide the option to group those into folders I’m afraid. In terms of limits, there is no limit to the number of pages you can create on WordPress.com:

    Pages vs. Posts

Please let me know if you have any questions.
