    I need help with the code to change the background and the text size in the footer.     Hi there,

    This code won’t work because your theme is coded in a different way. In order to apply styles to an element in your page, you need to know its identifier. To do this, right click on the element you want to style, and select the “Inspect Element” option. A panel will appear showing the HTML for your page, along with another panel, on the right, showing the CSS rules that apply to the element you clicked. Look through the HTML for the id=”the_identifier_you need” part. You can then use this identifier in your CSS.     I’ve done this in http://zuzuspetalsandgiftsflorist.com/, and found out that the footer uses “colophon” as an identifier, and the text in the footer uses “site-info”. Here’s the CSS then to make the changes you want: 

    #colophon {
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

    This snippet will change the background color of your footer. You can change the “FFFFFF” code for the color code you wish to use. See http://www.colorcodehex.com/html-color-picker.html (you’ll need the hex code). 

    #site-info, #site-info a {
    color: #000000;
    font-size: 12px;
}

    This will change the color and the size of the text in your footer. Again, you can change color and size as you wish.

    So… I can find the identifier of any thing on my blog and mess with it?
    If I find that the header uses “masthead” for its identifier and I look at the CSS rules I can change whatever I want?

    @auxclass As per this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/make-info-below-footer-a-smaller-font?replies=14#post-1351891, it is OK to change the credit style, just not the its text and links.

    @ozarkage, that’s the spirit, isn’t it cool? :) A lot of times, figuring out the identifier or CSS classes applied will be enough to get you going. Eventually, something trickier might come up. Then, you can just come here and we’ll help you :)

    I am not staff – maybe the style / font is OK on that other link – personally I would not mess with the footer at all other than to maybe append a copyright notice after the footer – and I don’t think anyone much reads the footer anyway

    @auxclass, thanks for your input. TOS still says that, but staff says that you can modify it as long as you can still read it.

    @fabianpsimoes, it is very cool. You will definitely see me around the forums. I am highly curious and have many questions.

    Devil’s advocate here – How do you define “still read it?” – one blog I saw shrank the type size and put the color almost to the background – they said they could read it – back and forth a couple of times and they were suspended – so – like I said before I would not mess with it – but that is just me – if someone asks me about it – I give them the spiel about one of the biggest hosts around – CNN etc – low cost and I don’t have to do any more software updates and I save a lot of money

    @auxclass, I see what you’re saying. And I want to give credit where credit is due. I think I’ll take your advice and not mess with the text. I’m still going to change the background color in the footer to something less obtuse than black though. Cheers.
