Modifying themes

Hello out there. I’m brand new to the whole wordpress thing and I actually have a couple of questions.
1. If I activate a theme, is it permanent and am I stuck with it forever?
and…
2. Aside from the default theme, can I modify the other themes?

Welcome to WordPress.
1. You can change themes anytime you want and as often as you want. We are limited to the themes listed under appearance > themes. We cannot upload or use themes found on the internet. Themes used here have to be modified and checked carefully for security issues before they are added for us to use.
2. We cannot modify the underlying theme files (PHP script), but we do have the ability to stylize the themes here with the paid CSS upgrade, and of course some knowledge of CSS. The Sandbox themes are basically wide open and there are many here who have done some amazing things with those themes. Sandbox 10 is actually recommended since it is an updated version and is better organized and has more options in the CSS.

One last note on a subject that always seems to come up at some point: Due to security concerns, we are not allowed to use javascript, flash, iframes for forms. See this support document for more information on what code is and is not allowed: http://support.wordpress.com/code/ .

Hello. I am new to this. I made a header in photoshop to put on my blog. I had it on there. I liked it. I went into themes and activited one (I meant to hit preview, but I’m a moron). I thought it would leave my header alone and just modify background, font color, etc. I was wrong. How do I get rid of this new theme and go back to my blank old page with my cool header?

Yes, but I wasn’t using one yet. The original one is not there. Can I just start back over at the very first one with the blue box at the top?

Okay, I am very sorry to bother you again. But are there themes other than Kubrick that allow you to change the header? And, totally unrelated, is that default one named after Stanley?

hello iam new to wordpress.com i was just wondering how would i put in a zipped file for for others to download from my blog? it doesnt really need to be a zip file just some way for others to download from my blog thanks….

This FAQ lists the types of files you can upload: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/what-filetypes-can-i-upload/ . Zips are not allowed.
