I am migrating my blog over from onehappyhiker.com to onehappyhiker.com on a wordpress.org account. As it is within 60 days of the domain change, i have to wait another 11 days. Is it possible to get the stats moved over to this new page http://box5174.temp.domains/~onehaps0/

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, have you tried going through the “contact us” support for help with this at https://wordpress.com/help/contact or the big blue question mark in your site dashboard? Since it looks like you have a paid upgrade plan, you are eligible for both LiveChat (when available) and email support.

  • Hi there,

You can’t transfer your domain yet, but you can already point it to your Bluehost site by changing the name servers:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

I’d recommend you do that first, then disconnect and reconnect Jetpack so it has the site listed under the right domain in your account. Once you’ve done that we can move your stats, and if you want your followers, over to the Jetpack site.

If you’re going to host with Bluehost you also don’t need the Personal Plan with us, so I can either refund the non-domain portion of your plan, or I can replace it with a Jetpack Personal plan if you prefer. Just let me know.

Is this the same as setting up a redirect? Are you able to set that up? Definitely a refund of that plan would be fabulous.

  • Not the same, no.

A redirect simply takes any traffic that comes to your domain, and send it to a completely different domain. If you’d had the WordPress.com site for a while and wanted to make sure your existing traffic automatically got routed to the new Bluehost site instead, that’s what you’d need.

What you want here is to connect the domain directly to your Bluehost site via a process called domain mapping. Contact Bluehost support and ask them for the name servers needed to point a domain to them – you might be able to find this in your hosting control panel as well where you set up a domain for your site.

Then you add those name servers to the domain following the instructions I provided above. That will give control of the domain’s DNS to Bluehost, even if the domain is not registered with them yet. Then you just need to follow the correct steps on Bluehost’s end to complete the connection there.

Once you’ve done this your domain will show the Bluehost site exactly is it would had the domain already been registered there.

Meanwhile I’ve gone ahead and refunded the non-domain portion of your plan payment. You should receive that refund in around ten business days.

    Hi

I am still confused. I have added the blue host servers to my wordpress.com site. I don’t understand how to do it next? I cannot find any steps with bluehost.

Okay, I have done this now. Can you please advise on transferring followers and stats over?

  • Sure thing. Actually did you see this?

This is the step you’re on:
    https://move.wordpress.com/move-subscribers/

We’ve moved your stats for you, so you can take care of the subscribers.

I have done all this. However, i am still getting new followers onto my old site and since i have removed jetpack, i cannot move these followers over? how do i fix this?

  • @onehappyhiker, if you remove Jetpack, none of your followers will work. Can you re-add it?
