modlook – There is no ‘Transfer’ button on my domains page.

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to pay for whatever feature allows me to see my transfer code. I can’t find any information on this topic on the internet, after about 20 hours of searching :-(.

Please tell me what upgrade/ plan/ plugin needs to be purchased to allow me to view the transfer code.

    Thanks in advance,

    Eoin.

Hi there, the authorization code is sent to you by email

That quote appears in the following Support guide on transferring your domain to a different registrar:

While you can use your WordPress.com domain with any platform by updating the name servers, you can transfer your domain to another provider if you wish. This guide explains how to transfer a domain registered with WordPress.com to another provider (known as a registrar). Before You Get Started Domain transfers can take anywhere from five to seven days to complete. If you would like your d

I’ve also added the “modlook” tag to your forum thread, but post back here if you need more help.

    HI, @justjennifer.

Thanks for your response on this.

Unfortunately, this is the sort of advice I can find on hundreds of internet pages, which is only tangentially related to my problem.

I have no access to the areas of WP you are discussing.

I’m attaching a screenshot of the Domains page on my installation.

Do you see any controls there?

    :-)

I even went to whois and sent a message to the domain owner. I got the following message the next day, from WordPress.com :-(

Someone is trying to contact you regarding deafinoneeye.com.

We received a request from someone who’d like to contact you regarding deafinoneeye.com, which you registered through WordPress.com. This contact method is designed to provide a way for people who are interested in your domain to reach you, while still keeping your contact information private.

We’re required by ICANN regulations to forward these types of requests to you, and you’re not under any obligation to respond.

Remember, we have no information on the legitimacy of these contacts, and scammers have been known to try to pose as WordPress.com or other companies. Use caution when viewing or replying to unsolicited messages from third parties. If you determine you would like to respond to this message, please be aware that you are electing to respond directly to a third party that has no affiliation with WordPress.com.

Here is the message from (email visible only to moderators and staff). Once again, this is NOT from a WordPress.com representative. WordPress.com does not authorize or verify any offers to sell or purchase domains via email.

I would like to contact you regarding your domain and/or content on your website.

If you would like to respond to the requester, please email them at (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    For real, Jenny J? :-)

Please tell me how the people who register domains for WordPress.com can be contacted and/or what extra things I need to purchase to allow me to view my own effing transfer code for my own effing url :-).

Thanks again and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Cheers,

    e.

Your screenshot shows the domain dashboard, not the screen that appears after you click on your domain name. Did you click on the domain name itself? That should open the next screen where you can initiate the transfer.

Have a look at Step 1’s screenshot (though it might not be entirely the same).

Please tell me how the people who register domains for WordPress.com can be contacted

If you’d prefer to wait for Forum Staff to assist you, as I said in my first reply I added the MODLOOK tag to the tags section of your forum thread. In that case, best to stop adding replies here so that your thread is not pushed down in the very long queue waiting for them.

    Hi there!

@justjennifer is correct in saying that you need to click on your domain to see additional options for the domain. On the page shown on your screenshot, click the domain name, and you will go to the next page, where the “Transfer” button will appear on the right side. Please click the button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

@justjennifer, thanks for getting back in touch :-).

Did you click on the domain name itself? That should open the next screen where you can initiate the transfer.

Below is what happens on all of the occasions I have clicked the domain name:

As you can see: there is no way to get to any “Transfer” area, and you can see that WP has obfuscated the A number – to me this is very shady business in action: like charging preople money to leave the club, after they paid to get in :-(.

If I click on the DNS settings I am taken to the following (unhelpful) page:

    So….

As I have been saying from the start:

    :-)

My installation of WP does not provide any access to any areas to do with transferring the domain.

I fervently hope that this is a huge pebkac error and that I am being the stupidest person in the world, but it doesn’t seem that way to me :-|.

@aisajib, thank you also for throwing your hat in the ring, see above :-).

    OK!

I am the stupidest person in the world (thankfully) :-).

I just found the “Get authorization code” button and WP emailed it to me.

    God bless my failings!

    Thanks @justjennifer & @aisajib

The only thing I can complain about now is questionable information architecture and GUI design :-).

    Thanks again, lads,

    e.
