modlook When will my Domain Name be Up for Sale Again?

  I purchased my domain name, eco-massagebyfanny.com, through WordPress. Then I decided to use another website host and canceled my subscription and my money was refunded. When will my domain name become available again?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Did you cancel the domain portion of the plan as well? Generally speaking, you should not cancel a new domain registration in order to register it somewhere else as there is no guarantee that it will become available again.

  You can point the domain name servers to your new web hosting provider even if you aren’t yet able to transfer the domain itself to them. ICANN regulations prohibit transfer of newly registered domains for a period of 60 days.

  I did cancel the domain name registration as well. I am new to this stuff. I called Godaddy and they said my domain name is now registered through Automatic.com. I am trying to contact them – is that a WordPress company?

  Hey there,

  @justjennifer is correct – If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  Also as @justjennifer mentioned, since you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
