Modularity lite – changing text box transparency

    I’m new to css and can not work out how to change the transparency of the box the text is in on all the pages – it is difficult to read, so i need to change box transparency/colour and/or text colour.
    i have tried folowing this http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_image_transparency.asp
    but it doesnt seem to make any difference to the appearence to blog (in preview).
    please help i have been bouncing around forums and tutorials and even started to learn to use dreamweaver.

    The background for the container is a PNG image (1px x 1px) that was designed with transparency to begin with. To change the transparency, you will either have to create a new tiled image with the level of transparency you want or abandon the tiled image and then use a solid color and define the transparency of that color using the opacity definition. Any image can only be made MORE transparent via the CSS, not less.
