  Is there a way to monetize my blog if I upgrade? I can’t find any information on this anywhere.

  You can include affiliate links where you get paid by a merchant for sending traffic or buyers to them. No upgrade is necessary, but there are restrictions. Here’s more info: https://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/
