Monetizing a Personal Site?
-
Kind of confused since it isn’t listed under the personalized package, but if I upgrade to personal would I be able to monetize my site using WordAds without the plugins?
Thanks in advance!

Hello there,
You are eligible for the WordAds program when you purchase our premium subscription – the personal plan doesn’t provide you with Wordads.
If you decide to go that route, once you have paid for Premium go to:
http://wordpress.com/plans/my-plan
Scroll down to the bottom, there will be a button labeled Start Earning, click on that to join WordAds.
Fill out your info and you will be all set.If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask.
Best,

Thanks for the quick answer! I was wondering if the requirements for Wordads has changed? I’ve been searching around and threads like https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/upgrading-to-personal-plan-3?replies=3 said that as long as you have a custom domain you could apply if you have enough traffic?Premium is a bit too pricey for me right now so I might go to Google AdSense or self-host instead if personal doesn’t work.

The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains that have enough traffic to qualify for acceptance into the plan.
Register a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
Apply for WordAds http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/

@timethief thank you! By upgrading to personal I’ll receive a domain, right? Currently my monthly traffic should be around 40-60k views, would that be enough to qualify?

I cannot answer what the traffic requirements are. have you used this link https://wordads.co/signup/ ?

@timethief
currently I have a free plan (didn’t know if I should upgrade or not and thought I should ask before going for it) so though I did take a look at that it didn’t help much. Thank you so much for clarifying and helping out, and will do! It’s not something super urgent so I’ll sit tight here <3 -

Hey @sakhyu,
Assuming you have the required traffic requirements, you have a custom domain connected to the site, and the content on your site isn’t in violation of our ToS, your application can be approved while only having the personal Plan.
So, if you like, you can go ahead and purchase the Personal Plan and I will contact the ads team to look over your account. Just let me know once you do that.
Thanks!

Thanks so much for the quick reply! In that case, I’ll probably be contacting you in a few weeks when I do purchase the personal plan! I want to buy it after my upcoming midterms so I can fully invest myself into website organization and everything.
Thanks again!! -

Sorry, two last questions! Is there a requirement for how long the site has been active? My site is only 3 months old, and I only really started using it this last month (which is why I have 50k+ views this month compared to only 5k views in the prior two). I’m a web novel translator so I can guarantee that I can keep the approx. amount of views I have in the coming months since the views rely on how much translations I post. Would this be an issue though? Also, how long would it take for them to look over my account? Since I want to set up my site in 1-2 weeks time, should I start now if it’ll take them a while to process me?

Yes, you can go ahead and submit your WordAds application. We review these in the order that they come in, so I can’t really give a firm timeline on that. Also, the sites are reviewed case by case. Please know that we will be in touch as soon as possible about the application.

Got approved today! Sorry, one last question before someone can close this thread, but once approved, do I have to do anything? Since I’m on a personal plan, I can’t install the AdControl plugin (I assume it means I can’t control how many ads are on my site, etc?). Are the ads already running or do I have to do anything else?
Thanks very much for your patience with my problem :) -
