Monetizing a WordPress Blog (Since Adsense isn't an option)
-
I’m a little puzzled here. I’ve read the Advertising section of Support, which states that Chitika, Adsense, etc. are not allowed.
So what exactly are my options for monetizing a wordpress blog?
They mention
“You can run any ads you’d like if you manage your own WordPress installation. More info, including hosting recommendations, can be found at get.wp.com.”
How exactly do I get my current domain “milkthepigeon.com” to go through that process?
I am interested in monetizing my site, including Adsense, Chitika, and whatever else that entails.
What are my options? For example, how does problogger.net use adsense (I guess he formally did), and Chitika?
Thank you very much for any help..
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM
The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If my blog is registered through wordpress.com and I paid to have it registered as well as paying to have my blog. Can I run Adsense ads on my paid and registered blog?
-
@steelegrl, if you are talking about the domain name and domain mapping, those are just what they say. Since your site is still physically hosted here at wordpress.com, then all the same restrictions still apply. The domain mapping just puts your site here behind the new domain name.
To advertise or anything like that you have to self-hoste a site. If you get 25,000 hits or more per month, you may qualify for the ad control program as explained in the first bullet point near the top of the advertising support document. Just don’t quit your day job.
