Monotone and Flickr, Photblog.org etc…
-
Hi – I have seen these questions before in the forums but still don’t understand the answer. My blog is: isosoup.wordpress.com and these are my questions:
1) I want to add Flickr, and other graphic links on my page. I know Monotone doesn’t have widgets, but I don’t know CSS – can someone help me with a code already existing which I can paste in when I upgrade my CSS…
2) I hear you can do it on the ABOUT page without Upgrading but I can’t get to my ABOUT page, it doesn’t exist in Pages…
Any help about how I can customize Monotone without being a CSS expert would be appreciated. I love it’s minimalist style, just want to add a few links. Thank you

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

Sorry – thought I did that above where I write my blog is: http://isosoup.wordpress.com -I also updated my nickname…thanks
-
Yes you did – sorry, didn’t notice.
You can set a static front page (see the FAQ on that) and add links there.

fbringer,
Your “About” page returns a “Error 404 – Not Found.” Have you tried adding a page? -
Thanks – So I tried the Static page but it would not display a link to the POSTS. I also read on this forum that static page means less people finding your page on Google. Is this correct? So I switched and tried to put links on my About page as well as other nested pages in About. But this doesn’t work either?
So – here are questions:
1) Can I link at all in Monotone or is this not possible? If so, how do I do it. What is a Text link and how do I create one?
2) I have links set up – Blogroll and another one but they never show up anywhere – what is the point of this.
3) How can I have my About page link to Flickr as well other sites?I am about to give up on Monotone and try something else…thanks
-
1) only from the About page. Follow these instructions: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/
2) You cannot use widgets like Blogroll on that particular theme. Most themes are widget-enabled, but not all of them
3) You would have to write the link into your page as in the thread I posted above. -
Ok – Thanks. I actually did manage to paste Flickr’s badge in there but just did it as “Code” in the Visual Editor and not as a link but will try the links now. I have a few other questions:
1) Can I nest on the About Page or is that not available in Monotone? I would like the About Page to be the Parent and then have a few other pages nested in ABOUT?
2) In Monotone, I have trouble with CAPTIONS showing beneath the photo. Sometimes it works and other times it actually puts the Caption into the text. You can see this on my ABOUT Page now. The Photo is called “Blessed” but instead of appearing in the Caption ( as for example PAUSE appears in the caption of the STILL STANDING post) it appears as part of the text. I follow the same protocol each time, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Thanks in advance for your answers:)

1) no, as far as I know on Monotone you get only the two pages: About and Archive.
2) Monotone is glitchy with captions; I always, ALWAYS strip them out. -
Re 1, no: you can have as many pages as you like. You just don’t have widgets, so you have to write links to them in the about page or in a static front page.
-
That’s true, so nested pages would work after all. You would just have to put the links right in the page itself.
When you say “a static front page” which page would that be? I’ve never been able to write a page in Monotone and set it to the front; the only possibility I’ve found is About or Archive and I suppose subpages of About. Can you have a page completely outside the structure?
-
@rain: Can be any new page you create – the normal way. You don’t get a new page tab, but the page will be available in the scrolldown under Settings>Reading. And if you create a posts page as well, you can write a link to it in the front page, so that when you click on it you get the default one-post-per-page workings of Monotone. Just tried it (again) and it works.

Ah, that’s very interesting. I know they’ve modified Monotone somewhat since it was released. Useful.
