Monotone and Static Front Page?
-
I started using Monotone a few days ago, and love how it looks. I have one issue I’m trying to figure out, though. I love the archive pages, but am concerned most people that stop by won’t know to look there, and it gets pretty tiresome clicking through dozens of photos otherwise. So, what I’d like to do is have a static first page explaining how to find the archives, as well as maybe a link to my other blog. I successfully got a static page, but there was nothing to click to get started on individual photos. Meaning, there was no arrow to click at the bottom like there is on individual posts. (Gee I hope this makes sense!)
So, the one-sentence question would be, does the Monotone theme support having a static first page? Then I guess there’s one more question, too. Does Monotone support being widgetized? I found the article on widgetizing, but was wondering if it would work on Monotone. Help?
Thanks! :-)

If you have a static front page you’ll need to manually put the links to the posts/archives etc. in the text on that page. The whole point of the static page is that it won’t have arrows to previous/next posts.
I’m pretty sure that monotone doesn’t allow widgets.

I have started a new blogg in Monotone. It really makes the pictures! (sorry for my bad English) BUT I have a problem, I don’t know how to make the page “about” so it will be show able. I can find it as a page, but when I click at “about” I have got a message: page not found error 404.
What do I do wrong??
Please help and don´t forget to show my blogg as one of the nicest :)
Thanks

Thank you very much. It works just perfect now :)
I had also translated it to English. If you have time you can read it and maybe correct the spelling ;)
Big hug and thanks again!

If you have specific improvement suggestions for Monotone, I’d send them in to Support via your dashboard when Support is open. It’s a new theme and a few tweaks are to be expected/hoped for. I was pretty crushed when I realized the “one image per post” meant no social bookmarking buttons! So I sent in a suggestion for that.

Also: wow, your blog looks awesome!
I wouldn’t worry about the spelling too much if I were you; it adds charm, and your English is perfectly understandable, if somewhat unique.

I seem to have the same problem as Sudt.
How can I change this or where? If I click on the “about” link i get the message page not found error 404.
By the way great blog!

Please give us a link to your blog; the website linked to your name is not a WP.com blog.

Hi raincoaster,
Thanx fot your reply. I found out about the about page.http://www.visservision.wordpress.com
But when I make a new page I can’t see it anywhere, accept when i look it up on the searchengine on the page.
thankx -
I honestly don’t think you can make a new static page in Monotone and have it come up as a tab on the header. And you can’t put it in your sidebar because there IS no sidebar per se. Try making the page, setting it to be your front page, and seeing if that will make it show up.
-
I also want something like a funciontinal startpage.. or at leat ONE text widget, so you can put some lincense info, and etc..
btw.. my blog with monotone
-
You can put license info in each post and it will be more prominent than in a sidebar, especially if you don’t have much text content.

Raincoaster, thanks for your nice words about my English :) Now I dare to wright some more.
Have a nice summer and take care!

Is there a way to add a Site Meter or some sort of blog statistics tracker to the Montone Theme? Thanks!
-
The reason I have a static page and thereby forgo other benefits is just exactly because I like the index list widget, however one as talented as you are -super blog-could design your own little index post, which of course would need updating
-
@honeymintini, no. The whole point of the monotone theme is that you can’t add widgets to it and destroy its minimalist look.
-
I do love the minimalist look – and the fact that it’s photo-tailored, but not having the option of installing even an invisible stats tracker is kind of a bummer. No worries though. Thanks for the response rosclarke!

Hi
I share my doubt with remicovisser…
If I put new page, it can be found only through searchengine…
is the only way to put link to it in eg. “about” page???
or is it possible to put it by archive and about at the top right???
that would be nice – having additional page there.
I mean I really like design of monotony and I want to develop my blog there.
That is what I was looking for :) more or less.
But then, I am used to freedom and flexibility ;)
thanx,
hugs from a newbee :P
