Monotone Theme
-
I’d like to suggest allowing SOME widgets in this theme, at the minimum, a text widget to put in a Copyright statement. If anyone has any suggestions for me, other than add a CC to each post, I’d love to hear it.
-
I agree with you on this one. Some of the more basic widgets would be lovely. Even if they are just at the bottom of the page in order to keep the look clean and tidy.

Actually the one thing I do miss the most is a blogroll/links section.
The copyright is to me not that important, as it’s pretty much self-explaining. Since the theme states pretty well who is the author/photographer. -
You may like to have a look as how I solved it:

Hope it helps -

I thought of adding the cc to my about page, which I’m sure would be suitable for protection of copy infringement. It just seems so out of the way there, though! On my other blogs, I have the cc right on the front page, in a text widget. It seems to make it more official somehow.

I’ve noticed that because it strips out all images but the first, you can’t use social bookmarking buttons. But because there’s only one post per page, maybe staff could put this as a widget in this theme alone, because it should work in the sidebar if there’s only one post per page. I’m going to make a formal request.

@raincoaster
How do you make a “formal” request? Would more than one blogger requesting formally have a greater impact? -
A “formal” request doesn’t require a change of clothes: it just requires you submitting it via your dashboard Support button during office hours. Those get priority; staff don’t generally trawl the forums looking for ideas, so it’s the fastest, best way to get action on something.
And yes, there’s power in numbers.
Because the theme automatically displays only one post per page, many things should be simplified including social bookmarking buttons. But staff need to make that change and they don’t generally play with themes once they’ve been installed.
I adore this theme, but it could be the single best theme in the world for photoblogging with a few tweaks. I for one am going to encourage staff to make those tweaks.

You go, Raincoaster. I’d like my viewers to be aware of the function of the archives so they could find things more easily. do you think this would be handled by a widget? I also like the idea of widgets toward the bottom, but not below the comments. If they were that far down, few would see them.
Thanks for your help. I will also make these requests.

I think the Archives are pretty cool as-is. I do find the text not sufficiently contrasty, though, so the link is hard to find.

you can refer to this linkHome Made Birthday Card to see how I let my readers know theres a link in the post since you can’t change the color of the link.

Staff emailed me back and said they’ve put the Social Bookmark and widget suggestions in the “to be considered” queue, so who knows how long it’ll be. But I do think they put a search that wasn’t there last week…at least I don’t remember seeing it before.
-
@rain-“to be considered” sounds ominously like “someday”. FWIW-the Search box has been there from the start. No way I can see to get rid of it either.
What I’d like to see is a contact form either as a separate Page or as an addition to the About page. Right now you can’t do either. (Actually, you can on the About page, but the text entry box is suppressed. o_O) My workaround was to just ask people to leave a comment on any photo, since I’ve got that set up to send me an email notice and anyone not logged in to wp.com has to include their email address to post a comment.
-
I’ve no interest in being contacted offline. Comments, on the other hand, are great for hits. And so are Social Bookmarking buttons.
Maybe they’ll get to it faster because they all know what an irritating whiner I am? Time will tell. I’m going to see if I can figure out a workaround in the meantime.
