Monotone theme not showing images resized

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just started a wordpress.com blog to create a photoblog with the great Monotone theme. However I have found that the image is not being resized to fit the width of the blog as indicated in the FAQ.

I’ve even added a width tag of 840 to the image as this appears to be the width of the page, but to no avail. When I look at the source code of the page the width tag has disappeared!

If I try the post with another theme the image is fine. I am using an image from an external URL.

Is there anything I am doing wrong? The site is upekshapriya.wordpress.com

    Regards

I always find my images in Monotone are automatically set at 400 pixels. Very annoying. So what I do is post them, then go in and edit the image using the Image Icon: I delete the class and size information, and then they really DO post at full size.

Thanks for the information Raincoaster, =)

There’s a FAQ? Please share the link!

I was having this same problem on one of my Monotone posts and the solution by staff then was to completely strip out any width tags and leave only the image URI.

FWIW-If image clarity is important to you, resize your horizontal image to 840 pixels wide before uploading and make sure to insert it into your post at full size. Vertical images need to be resized to 560 pixels wide.

I’ve gone into the image icon and deleted the width and alignment tags leaving only the alt and the src tags (which I see in the html view) however I’m still getting a 1024 width image displaying at that width.

Looks like there might be a bug in the Monotone functions?

It’s probably deliberately designed that way, for some obscure and top secret reason. Try jennifer’s workaround.

    From the Monotone theme FAQ:

What is the layout width for posts?

The layout width is dynamic and depends on the image used in a post. The maximum layout width is 840 pixels and the minimum is 560 pixels. Monotone will determine the width based on the post’s image and will display the correct image size to fit in the layout.

It looks like it’s meant to fit properly, just doesn’t seem to be doing it for some reason.

Unfortunately all the pictures are hosted elsewhere and don’t have 840 pixels as one of the optional widths to view, so Jennifer’s workaround won’t work. I’ll just have to do with a margin instead.

Did I miss the announcement? http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/05/26/monotone-theme-questions/

Regardless, for the reason I mentioned above, I’d still be manually resizing my photos in my graphics-program-of-choice and then uploading at the vertical/horizontal sizes mentioned.

Sorry, didn’t read through your post to the end. (Late night for me…too much/little coffee). Lots of people have margins around their images because they are uploading much smaller images. That’s good too.

I got some clarification from Nick in Support. He told me that “In order for Monotone to work, the images need to be uploaded to your blog. You are attempting to use images stored on another server.”

He has updated the FAQ for Monotone http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/05/26/monotone-theme-questions/

In order for Monotone to work with your images, they need to be uploaded to your blog and then inserted into the posts from your Media Library. If you are attempting to insert images into your posts and the images are stored on another web site, it will not work.
