Monthly $24.95 for business account?

    I’m in need of help from the forum. I have had a wordpress site for over 5 years and am ready to start another one. I’m confused because the user interface looks different and they’re saying that it will cost $24.95 a month for a business account in order to do plugins. I do plugins with my current site but don’t recall having to pay $24.95 a month to wordpress. Can someone help sort this out me? I’m using through another company and I bought a theme from another company. If I do that again does it cost me anything to use wordpress and plugins?

    Are you hosting your own WordPress site? Or are you using WordPress.com to host?

    Hi there,

    You were most probably using self-hosted version of WordPress before when your website was hosted somewhere else. That version of WordPress allows you to use as many plugins and themes as you want. Basically, you are in control and you are responsible if your site gets screwed up because you tried a new plugin :)

    With WordPress.com, you can add custom themes and plugins in just the Business Plan. We have one of the finest support team working 24/7 to resolve your issues. So at the end, it’s your call if you want to go ahead and host your site someplace else or with us. If you go with some other hosting provider and use the self-hosted version of WordPress, the only cost you’d have to pay would be the fees of the hosting company. WordPress would be completely free to use. As for the plugins, it really depends. Some authors allow you to use them on more than 1 sites, some do not. In either case, you’re better off contacting the plugin developer :)

    What is the URL of the site you need help with? Without that information, we cannot give you an accurate reply.

    If by chance you are talking about a site using the standalone WP software, you’ll want to post for help at the support forums at https://wordpress.org/support If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on that page. Alternatively, you can contact your current web hosting provider.

    Standalone WP and WordPressdotcom are different entities with separate documentation and support forums. Both @shuklasuyogya and @socalthrills have provided you a link to the support guide that explains the differences in more detail.
