Monthly options for a business plan

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I’d like to upgrade to WP Business Plan, as well as get a domain name. However, I only get the option to pay per year/two years. Is there a chance I can pay monthly instalments instead?

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Yana

    Hi @yanaherbotheca

Are you checking the upgrade options directly from your dashboard? You can do that here: https://wordpress.com/plans/herbotheca.wordpress.com

On that page, there should be a dropdown menu showing the payment options (image attached bellow). From this dropdown, you can select monthly or annual billing and you should be the prices updating accordingly.

Alternatively, you can also visit the main WordPress pricing page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
There, there will be also a dropdown where you can choose between monthly or annual payments before proceeding with your upgrade and domain registration.

Make sure to select the monthly option from the dropdown before confirming your plan to pay in instalments.

Let me know if you are not being able to see/access the monthly payment options.

Here is what you should be seeing on your dashboard page when you go on Upgrades > Plans

I strongly advise you to wait and save up until you can afford an annual plan. It isn’t a great idea to pay monthly when you lose out on features such as a free custom domain for the first year and support that are included in the annual plan and still end up paying double what you need to over the course of a year.

I agree with @themagicrobot on this.

Also, if you aren’t subscribed to WordPress.com’s promotional emails or the WordPress.com News blog, where they announce sales and discounts, you’ll want to consider doing that.

Another possible option is to sign up for a month of Business, see if it works for you and then switch to the annual plan. https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/change-your-payment-frequency/

You can see and compare all available plan features on the Pricing page. https://wordpress.com/pricing/ Open the comparison button just below the pricing table and flip between Monthly and the Annual plan.

@justjennifer Many folks don’t even need to wait for promotions. Here are screenshots from higher up in this thread and from my site. Look at the massive savings if you sign up for one/two/three/a hundred? years. It’s as if they don’t really want people paying monthly as it is more complicated to administer. I can understand the lack of a custom domain when paying monthly as people would snag their domain and cancel their plan after 30 days. But I think even people paying monthly deserve to benefit from support?

Hm, it appears those discounts change depending on the currency involved.

And yet, the initial outlay for an annual Business plan is more than most individuals can comfortably afford even with the stated discounts. Not so for a company or institution…

(Given the current offer of being able to install plugins on a new Personal or Premium plan (until August 25), if I had a new free site, I’d run for the checkout line.)

my 2¢/I also agree with you that anyone on a monthly Business plan should have access to WordPress.com’s Fast support from the expert team, even if it isn’t Priority help. That should be a minimum given monthly plan subscribers are actually paying more annually./my 2¢

  • Hi Yana,

The community gave you some great feedback! While you consider what they’ve suggested, I want to explain why you might not see the monthly option.

The free domain name offer is included in the annual and multi-year plans only, not the monthly plan. If you added a domain while looking at the plans, you may not see the option to switch to the monthly subscription.

If you have a plan in your cart, you can remove the plan from your cart and return to the plans page. Then, you should be able to select the monthly option and pay for the domain name separately.

    I hope that helps!
