More API key issues–different way to block spam?

I installed two different WordPress blogs last weekend (for me and my husband) and we each craeted a wordpress.com account to get an API key. I kept getting errors that the keys appear to be invalid, so I contacted our ISP and they supposedly opened the account to akismet.com… over 48 hours ago. Am still getting the same error message. I’ve tried other things mentioned on these boards, like rekeying the code rather than cutting and pasting it.

To tell the truth, I’m probably not going to bother with WordPress if I can’t get some kind of spam blocker set up. Is there some other plug-in that I could try using instead?

    Thanks.

Could you ask your host if the ‘fopen’ function is available for Akismet? It needs it.

I use a combo of Akismet and Bad Behavior myself.
